so when it comes to suspension (and alot of other things) i know nothing about it. i was looking at your pricing for suspension work but the problem is that i dont know what i need so i got a 02 fz1 with about 14k on it im about 220lbs and ride all street and agresive as i can. so my question is how much would it run me for you to jump on my bike and do the basic to make my bike more fun and enjoyable? thaks

There is good news and bad news....the good news is I can make the FZ1 suspension work good. The bad news is the cost. Yamaha designed that bike to get the most bang for the buck. One of the places they saved on costs is the suspension components. I can adjust the stock clickers, which I don't charge for, and get it a little better. However if you want it to work really well, we need to get both compression and rebound kits, as well as springs, seals and oil. Given the milage, I think we should plan on replacing the bushings as well. You can expect to spend about $725 for the forks.

We can rebuild the forks and use thicker oil and new springs. I don't recommend this for track days or racers, but it will allow you to spread out the costs, because we can add the kits in later. That would run about $315. It will cost more in the long run because it will cost $560 to install the kits later.

The best solution for the shock is to use it as a paper weight and get a Penske 8981. Your cost is $715.50. I can gold valve the stocker, but it will be $400, and it's now where as goos the Penske.

We can do it in stages if you want to, like forks first then shock, but it's best to match them both at the same time. hope that answers your questions, call me if you need to talk more about it.

My two cents ...

Don't cheap out on the suspension, especially if you are planning on keeping the bike.

I went and sought out a good deal on the infamous internets ...

Needless to say I got screwed in more ways than one.
It took over 8 months to get things straightened out and
I still have my doubts about the rear shock.

Please do business with a reputable suspension shop (like Pete's)
It will be cheaper in the long run.
