Penske 8981

I was recently fiddling with the compression (I think it's compression) adjustability on my shock. I haven't touched it in a while but when I turn it I noticed that it had more than 6 settings. The adjustor just kept turning and turning. I am positive that the set screw is in tight on the knob, I could still feel the detents every pi/3 rotation. Anyone know what might be wrong with it?

Penske 8981

On the 8981, there are six holes to choose from. It will keep on turning forever, it just cycles 1-6. Nothing is broken.
