Revalving stock vs. Gold ValvesSo I'm at a junction: Do I go with Gold Valves or do I change the shim stack on my stock '01 CR125? I have been told that putting in the Gold Valves brings back an older check-valve style of operation and gets rid of the mid-valve. What benefit would I get by changing to the new valve system other than a fresh canvas with charts to aid me in setting my shim stack? Do you think it would be better just to start with a respring and modify my current shim-stack for more high-speed flow? Bike is plenty soft off large jumps (low-speed) but is horrible on sharp rocks, roots and small bumps. Both front and rear suffer from this. It is also currently oversprung on both ends and I'll soon be going to a .39kg in front and 4.4kg in back. When I change the springs I'd like to take a jab at valving. Also, do you typically have the tools necessary to rebuild a shock at the track with you? It looks like I'm not gunna try that end of the bike. What sort of rates would it be approx to open it up, swap the spring and take a stab at the valving? |

Revalving stock vs. Gold Valves.39kg and 4.4kg springs are on their way. I think I may leave the valving be until I try out a somewhat properly sprung suspension. |
