Pete - Need help on my TLR forks that ya hooked upHey Pete, I got my Tiller road worthy just over a week ago and started to look at adjusting the suspension. Initially when I rode it as-is the front end was bottoming out and it seemed very unstable-loose? when turning-in (seemed to fall over into turns?...quite opposite of what the Tiller is known for). Anyways, here's where the bike was at before I touched anything: 1. Installed forks per stock measurements (6mm above triple) 2. Fork preload adj. set @ 5 lines showing (5 line was flush with the fork cap nut thingy...technical term) 3. Front fork sag (me w/ street gear) = 49mm. And here's where I'm at now: 1. Turned up fork preload nearly all the way; the last adjuster line = flush with fork cap nut. 2. Front sag now = 36mm I'm still setting up the rear right now, but looking for some input @ this point. Have I run out of adjustment? I was aiming to set it at 30mm. Is the spring too soft? Is the TL a pig? Is this something that you need to look at? I haven't gained any weight in the last month. Let me know, -K |

Pete - Need help on my TLR forks that ya hooked upFront preload is too high. Back it out 2 lines and go for 40mm sag. I'll have to see the bike some time to get it right. How about taking a ride out some time after Father's Day? |

Pete - Need help on my TLR forks that ya hooked upOK - I'll give it a try at 40mm. The bottoming out occured on larger single bumps/dips...not successive (e.g. wasn't due to packing down). Should I look at compression damping in the mean time? Thoughts for the rear sag? I was originally setting that to 25mm (when the front was going to be 30mm). I'll obviously have to give it a spin w/ these new settings. But I would like it if we could setup an appointment. I'll give you a call sometime in the next week to see when you would be able to fit me in. Thanks, -K |

Pete - Need help on my TLR forks that ya hooked upThe Dr. is at it again! Thanks for tweaking the forks Pete! Night and day difference. Overall the bike feels a bit stiff on larger bumps but I'm sure it can be managed by a few clicks. That whole see-saw motion is now completely gone - front and back end seem to be working together much better now. No bottoming of the forks anymore. I'd take it for some adjustment rides, but I threw my back out the day after I was down at your shop (hospital visit type of back injury...DOH!). Healing up now...but thats why I hadn't got back to ya sooner. But anyways, thanks a ton for your help!! ![]() |
