Race hawk/f2 front end question....

Here goes..... I'm running an 88 hawk with a pre 94 f2 front end. The front end is STOCK, no aftermarket valves/emulators at all. Recently I've noticed they have been VERY pogo-stick like. Very little to no damping, they might have always been like this, I'm not sure. I've always gotten some nasty chatter through turn 9 and sometimes 1, higher speed lefts.

I decided to freshen the fork oil tonight to give it a bit of damping. I was told to mix some 12.5wt together and put that in. (told by smf, who has gold valves and emulators) So I did. Still pogo-sticks. Then I thought since I have stock internals, would thicker oil(15wt) give better damping? So I did that, I filled one fork with 15wt. It seemed much better. I didn't have enough to do both to give the front end the "bounce test".

My question is: Is 15wt too thick?
Should I go back to 12.5wt, or go with 15wt?
I've had my bike down to 21's on the crappy pogo-sticks, I'm just looking for a small change. Not in the market for internals yet.

Thanks in advance!!!!!

What year are the forks exactly? The pre 94, meaning up to 1993 are damper rod forks and you willneed 15-20 wt. 94 and up are cartridge style and should be revalved to work with 5 wt. Any heavier in a cartridge fork will just cavatate and fade real quick, like 2-3 laps.

Thanks a shitload, they aren't cartridge style. I'll go with the 15 wt. It looks like there was 10 wt in there before, but I can't really tell. Just thinner than the 15 wt.
