Required Fork Rebuild EquipmentI'm planning to rebuild my forks this winter (fluid, seals bushings). I was wondering everything I will need to do this, and what equipment I should purchase. Traxxion offers this kit: eBay Motors: Traxxion Fork Service Tool Kit GSXR, R6, ZX, Ducati (item 230031274188 end time Dec-14-07 11:51:25 PST) Is this kit good? Is that a good price? Is there anything else I will need? I have inverted forks, btw (06 r6). Won't I also need a seal driver? Should I just use stock yamaha parts for the seals and bushings? I watched Peter rebuild a set of forks in september at TTD and it looked like something I could do with a little aggravation the first couple times, but might be worth it. I'd like to give it a shot. Learning how to do something yourself is a worthwhile investment. My question still stands. Also, to add to my initial question, what would be the additional equipment/tools/parts required to do a rear shock when the time came? |

Required Fork Rebuild EquipmentI built mine and a few others.. I didn't use the nice fancy fork spring compressor, although I wished I had. I used a 3" metal fitting collar, some threaded rod and thats about it for disassembly. Bushing dont always need to be replaced, only if they are worn. Springs, fluid, seals and dust wipers are needed. Here is a link to a pictoral/write-up I done last year, using the old skool home made tool.... Fork Rebuild I have since used the fork spring compressor offered from Motion Pro, Trax, Racetech and others.. so much nicer. If this helps cool, if you need more info let me know. Charlie |

Required Fork Rebuild EquipmentIt's not that hard to do. I don't use any special tools, but I'm a hack! I do have the softjaws that are drilled to hold cartridges and pistons for actually changing the valving. There have been tasks I couldn't do, like removing the rebound valve from my 125 forks. Needed a custom tool made out of a CBR axle or something that Peter just happened to have. He's handy that way. But a basic rebuild doesn't require much more than wrenches, a drift, a screwdriver, a heat source, and an oil pan. Be carefull while using not specialized tools. |
