GL1800 Shock

Hey Peter,
I'm finally getting around to having you build me a shock. You talked about maybe a penske. I know that Race Tech still has nothing for it. When would it be good to bring my Gold Wing over for you to work on a rear shock for it? The front RaceTech rebuild you did for me was awesome
John

Any time is good, every one is starting to get busy, if you can get it here this week, we can get started. Nice pic.

Is the wing going to be set up for track use regularly?

Re: GL1800 Shock

I'm mostly trying to get rid of the dead waterbuffalo feeling in the back end. But it will definately see more of the track. Gotta check out Peter's wizardry! I plan on spending most of my track time on my 929.

I have often thought of taking a cosmetically wrecked wing and stripping it to bear bones. Should run pretty good with all that power and torque and a few less hundred pounds!

Re: GL1800 Shock

Hey, John... if you were to become a certifiable "kook" how would you know?
I kid, I kid. That's an awesome pic.
Hope to see you up there this year. There was a dude on a wing at a Penguin day I did last summer... pretty sure it wasn't you. I think he only got a lap or two in before he changed his mind and switched bikes... or maybe his cup holders weren't safety-wired. I dunno. I was bummed. I wanted to see that thing railing through 6.

Re: GL1800 Shock

Turn 6 rocked! I can see where someone wouldn't like the wing on the track. If you have bad body position you are screwed. All you'll do is grind and go slow and be all over the place. The Bowl fooled me the first day, I couldn't get up to the top on the exit. I could drag knee all the way through, but couldn't hit the top X. It drove me nuts! During the track walk, I realized how F'N steep that thing is! I carried way more speed into it the next day and had no trouble getting to the top.
Man, I can't wait for spring!

Re: GL1800 Shock

There needs to be a 'Tank Patrol' class at LRRS. Stripped down Wings, ST1100, ST1300s, Concours, etc. Have a minimum factory dry weight for entry and lets see the battalion go out in formation! : )

(I've seen a 'naked' ST1100 conversion, MEAN looking bike...)

Many years ago we were joking about a class where the only rule was the bike had to come from manufacturer with a radio installed.

Nice conversion there... only thing I'd do is shorten the exhaust.

Re: GL1800 Shock

The shock is out. Once we got the engine out and cut the frame in half it was easy. Right now I'm waiting for every one to get back from Daytona so I will have more for you next week.
