Will I need stiffer springs?

Being 285lbs, will I need to set whichever bike I buy up with stiffer suspension? Or should the stock springs be able to handle my weight? Im concerned about sacrificing handling/control if my suspension is sagged way more than it should be.

And Im going to buy a Honda CBR F4i if that helps you at all.

Thanks, Dan

Re: Will I need stiffer springs?

I am not in the least mechanically inclined and I have less suspension knowledgein my whole body that some of the guys here do in their pinky fingers.

I do however know that sportbikes from the factory are set up for a 160-180 pound person. I on the other hand weigh 250lbs and am in sore need of an aftermarket shock.

You will need an aftermarket shock and not just a stiffer spring to set up the bike properly.

Ohlins are wicked expensive, but Penske offers a more cost effective alternative and should probably meet your needs unless you are a very advanced rider.

Yes you will need stiffer springs and a revalve to handle the additional spring rate. An aftermarket shock is best for the rear, we sell Penske, Ohlins and Elka with pricing starting at $770.

I probably should have put in my previous post that if anyone can answer this question, it's Pete.
