That sucks, but I can certainly see how it could happen. I had my car up on a lift today to change the exhaust. Was surprised at how difficult it is to get the car stable on those things. Guy who was working with me said that these modern unit-body low to the ground sports cars with their funky weight distributions are especially bad.
On the other side, lifts make exhaust work a hundred times easier. I can't imagine trying to do a full turbo-back exhaust with jacks and stands, there'd be no room to work at all.
