MA Written warning? Driving record? Insurance?

I picked up a written warning driving a car last night. I was 10 over in a 25, the speed limit drops very quickly there.

Anyhow, this is the first incident in years.

Does a written warning effect insurance at all? Will it screw up my "incident free" years or anything like that?

Do towns send warnings into the RMV? If so how long do they appear on my record?

    Thanks in advance.

Not sure if they send them to the RMV, but as far as insurance, and loss of license goes, they don't affect you. I got 20 or so, and they never appeared on my insurance, or caused any other problems.

No insurance will not find out. I've had a few so I know. But its for sure in a data base somewhere that's shared and if you get stopped again anytime soon you will most likely not get just a warning. Not sure how long it stays there. Couple months I think.

There is a school there but it was a night on a holiday.

This was in Williamsberg, MA just up RT 9 from Northampton MA. My fiancee lives there and from years and years of observation of that town center I can say that they just sit there and pull over car after car after car. It's a revenue generator.

The other thing is that in May and other months early in the year I have seen them pulling over almost every bike that passes through town checking insurance, registration and inspection stickers.

I got pulled over there on a new bike I had once and the cop actually flagged over another bike while he was checking my papers. It was kind of insane.

They just got a new cheif I think, or are getting one so maybe things will change a little bit, but my experience is in the center of town, near the library you can count on super aggressive enforcement there. Coming from the west you drop into the center of town after a long open downhill run so people are moving when they hit town. 25 seems super slow after the open hill country to the west. it feels like walking.

Normally they will write you for 10 over. I had a good sob story though.

written warnings are just for police record. no one else sees it.

i used to ride out through williamsburg/northampton all the time while i was at umass amherst -- beautiful part of the state, with lots of nice roads out there.

i did get a written warning (cop was really nice and dropped it from a ticket cuz he was a fellow rider and i wasn't really doing anything bad, just 15 over in a 55, but i hadn't come across another car in probably 15min, lol) on rte 9, but that was probably 20mi west of williamsburg

Written warning is a good thing. It doesn't go on insurance or anything, however if you get caught there again you will probably get a ticket.. The written warnings are just a record within the pd so they know they let you off once.

Thats what I thought too, but I got like 8 in a row without getting a ticket. Not sure if they just don't look or what, maybe I just got lucky.

No, written warnings do not get sent to the RMV, they will not appear on your driver history. The only people that can see that particular warning are those that work at the department in which the warning was given (dispatchers and police), and it only comes up on an "in-house" check. Get pulled over again in that town for speeding, you bet you'll get a citation. This is not just my opinion or 'in my experience as a driver who has been pulled over' either, I just stopped working for a PD in MA a week ago. You're all set Taxonomy, don't sweat it.

Hey thanks for the info... but to clarify...

Does this mean that the warning is not shared across cities and towns of Massachusetts? Ie. a warning in Sherborne is unknown to cops in Newton?

what if it's warning by the state? then you're fucked i suppose.

about the "opinion is like asshole thingie", that also applies to the person that stops you then yelled at you because he thinks you're stunting. he stinks as well.

    no this is wrong.

Like Nilez says you get a warning in Boston.
You get stopped again for a violation in Boston say a few days later?
    You're screwed most likely.

It stays on your record for ONE year after you get it. SO if a cop pulls you over and asks if you have been pulled over in the last year just say yes!!

    ASK ME HOW I KNOW!!

Once any warning/citation/arrest/summons/anything goes on record, it doesn't get scrubbed after time. It stays, it just depends on who has access to see it.

Re: MA Written warning? Driving record? Insurance?

I know our records department sends both warnings and money citations to the rmv... they actually have different colored envelopes for each... however I don't know what the rmv does with that info because I don't ever see warnings on a drivers history... just in our in-house as stated before...

Re: MA Written warning? Driving record? Insurance?

they cannot put it on your driving record or have it count against you because warnings have no system in place for appeal nor do they imply an admition of guilt. you were not charged or convicted of anything. no legal action is ever taken therefore no ramifications can be imparted.
