    Question Replacing ignition key/switch?

    1984 Kawasaki Ninja 900
I'll be attempting to replace the switch in a few weeks when the new one arrives.
What is the deal with the fasteners holding the switch in place.
Do I need a drill now?

    Thanks

I dont know about your specific bike, but the ones I've done were screwed in from the bottom so you cannot see them or access them without some dissassembly. You shouldnt have to drill anything out. look closely at things for hidden covers ,screws or obstructions hiding screws.

I'll take another look but they look like a torx with a broken off pin in the center. Switch on the bike is OEM.

    Thanks

Eric, I replaced or rather fixed my ignition switch when they key broke off, (cbr 929) if you don't have the torqx driver, like I didn't you can drill off the heads and replace the screws with new torqx or like I did replace them with allen screws.

I either cut a slot with a dremel for a screwdriver (if you're replaceing it)or left twist drill it if the drill doesn't get it then easyout it (if you want to reuse switch)

You can buy those safety torx bits just about anywhere.

Try fastenal. They have them on the counter in most stores. I didnt realize thats what you had. Some people say you can break off the pin, bur I've never tried it.

Take a punch and flatten out the dot in the middle and use the torx you already have in your toolbox. Easist way I have found!!

Pretty sure most bikes have red loctite on the ignition switch bolts. IMO would be a bitch to try to remove w/ a slotted driver.

Just get some security torx bits like a couple others mentioned. Any Sears store will stock them.

ya in that case you can get torx bits that are tamperproof (hole drilled in middle). I had to replace one on an 89 gsxr and it was just 2 bolts underneath, I just used regular button head screws.

*edit* looks like 39 people already told you that info above...oops haha
