One Way Long Distance Pickup Truck Rental

    So anyway,

I am thinking about going to Maryland to purchase a trackbike. Since I do not have a truck I am contemplating the possibility of flying to Baltimore and renting a one way pickup truck.

So anyway, I looked at the uhaul, budget, enterprise and other car rental webbies and the only thing I came up with so far is a one way moving truck rental with Uhaul (at least $330 without taxes).

In any event, I was wondering if anybody might be able to recommend and alternative solution to my dilemma.

    Thanks a lot,

    Eddie

Perhaps someone going down to Jersey for a trackday could help?

You don't! Here is the thing, people go back and forth between DC and Boston pretty regularly...

...you just need to find the guy from Boston who delivers stuff to Baltimore and comes back North with an empty truck. I'm sure he'd put your bike in the back for $150.

That's actually a good idea. However he is actually located almost 2 hours from NJMP.

In any event, say I decide to have the seller ship me the bike. Aside from the $400-$600 shipping cost what guarantee do I have he is going to deliver? What precautions can I take in case we agree to have him ship it?

    Thanks again,

    Eddie

Thanks Paul. I just haven't done this before and like I said I just need to make sure I take appropriate precautions to ensure he will deliver. Please feel free to make any suggestions on this. Thanks

Ever consider putting a class 1 hitch on your car? They can be had pretty cheap and will easily tow a motorcycle trailer. Trailers are also very cheap to rent.

Actually, I have. This might be another alternative. Thanks.

That would actually be awesome. Where are you moving to? I guess I could fly to Baltimore and we could split gas on the way up.

    UShip.com

works just like a reverse ebay. you say what you have to ship and they (either pro companies or just guys with trailers who are travelling in those directions) give you prices theyd charge you to do it. i used it to get a bike from SD to my door and it cost me $440

Don't drive over 65 and you won't get any flats.

Most people think trailer tires are the same as car tires.
They are not rated for speed, hence you get blow outs at sustained speeds of over 70mph.

Hard to find speed rated tires for trailers.

    Eddie,

Maybe time is a consideration, but why dont you rent a truck locally (Enterprise has been cheapest and most accomodating in getting me pickup trucks in the past), drive it to Maryland (7-9 hour drive depending on traffic and location), load the bike up (bring a ramp and tiedowns), drive it back and return the truck the next day.

One, maybe two, days truck rental, probably less than a hundred bucks a day.

Figure three tanks of fuel for a ride of that sort at whatever that costs.

Tolls along the way probably about $50 bucks total

New racebike at home with no questions about who is doing the shipping and can I trust both the seller and the shippers..............priceless

My sister and brother live in the Baltimore area and I make the drive on average once a year and if you leave early enough it's no big deal to do the drive. Bring a friend and split the drive time and you could be there and back in a day.

Good luck whatever you wind up doing.

    Joel
