    Hmm, how to return?

Now that I've shifted my life around a little bit, I'd like to race again, or at least ride. Trying to decide the following things:

    1. What bike?

I'm trying to decide if I should just come right back to a MW and race with my friends, or try something else. I used to like racing the motard but didn't like dealing with the mechanical work. I'd consider an SV too, I guess. I know it would be cheaper and such... I haven't raced a vtwin and I don't throttle blip so I would definitely need a slipper clutch. I like the fact that it's cheaper and less chance of highsiding yourself to the moon, but the reduction in holyshitthrills and not racing with all the guys I know would be a downer. Also, considering racing/going to other tracks, a MW is a little more versatile. I did a lot of 19s on the MW and did 23s with one or two 22s on the motard so I'm guessing if I got an SV I'd do 21s or so and be competitive in amateur. So basically, looking at finding an 08+ setup R6, or a good prepped SV, or I guess getting a wrecked R6 and building my own for OCD fun.

    2. Race this year, or just TDs?

Returning this year would suck due to points and grids. I could pick my way through the field but it looks like there are a lot of people doing similar times, so starts and grids are very important. Even if I come back and win races, I wouldn't be in the running for championships (are they still giving out am championships?). Depending what bike I get, or I guess regardless of what bike I get, it would be nice to shake the thing out and get it dialed in before racing it. So I could just do a handful of trackdays this season and come back for round 1 next year. The winter would be a long wait to get some competition though. So I could just show up and race, albeit likely slowly...

I dunno, what do you guys think... I'm sure the NESR opinions will be flowing.

    Things I'll need:
    Bike
    Spares
    Warmers
    Stands
Transponder (was hoping they'd go to an RFID setup like 5ks and running races by the time I returned lol)
    Helmet

    My vote:

    Buy a well-sorted 600, TDs this year.

You know enough dudes at the track that finding a structurally sound middle weight shouldn't be too hard.

Well sucks you sold everything but I KNOW how it feels.
You gotta do what you gotta do sometimes.

Iv said it at almost every race report iv posted. However idk how much you care about my opinion and at the end of the day we all are different.
Chances are if I didn't race last and this year I would be able to pay off my house. That's a fact. However I would no trade my experiences at the track with anyrhing else. I legit mean that. Not just the racing part. But what comes after. The friendships I have created. I legit have fallen in love with LRRS and it will always be on the top of my priorities.

It costs so much money and I am ok with never going on legit vacations because this is so much better.

My vote is if you can swing it go for it.

I would also suggest getting a bike you haven't raced before. It's fun to race even with people you don't know lol.
Maybe even try formula 300? Yes you might find it boring, but you might find it awesome too.
Plenty of SVs out there that's for sure though. Or I'm sure Jim would be able to find you a gixxer in a heartbeat.

At the end of the day you follow whatever your heart and brain tell you man

Get a small bike and save some cash while having fun racing. Come back asap. The longer you wait the slower you will be. Who cares about the grids. It's just more opportunity to pass people. I have yet to take to the track this year as well so I will have 0 points too but I will be racing at some point and starting from the back of the grid.

no points from this year means back of the grid starting next year. missing first round next year means starting in the back. see where I'm going with this? you're gonna be jumping back in at the back anyway so just do it NOW.

Get a bike, any bike that you find a good deal on, wether its setup properly, or completely stock. A couple of trackdays to get used to it, and a couple of race weekends without any pressure, just for fun

I wouldn't rush. Find the right deal on a bike that is setup properly with the good bits as spares. Do some track days to get used to the bike. Then race it. Won't matter what class, everything is exciting to race when you are pushing a machine to it's limits.

This thread is exactly why I haven't been pushing the sale on my 600.

Chris, you know where your heart is. Get the bike that's right for you. The rest will fall into place.

BTW, you are welcome to borrow my warmers, x-ponder, etc if you decide trackdays aren't enough. Just let me know what you need.

    Re: Hmm, how to return?

the MW grids havent been super fast so far. it really depends what you want out of racing. are you planning on doing a full season, because you really havent done that in a couple years. if not, then screw the points and grids & just get out there. remember when you were getting pissed for not hitting 19's, that's when things arent as fun & you dump $ into tires and other BS.

i'd suggest get something you're already comfortable on and just do some races for fun. do a couple at NHMS, try a CCS one at NJMP, and maybe Summit (same distance for traveling). remember you got into racing to have fun....keep it at that.

Problem is, I buy some ninja 300 and then want to race it at NJMP... I'd rather have a MW for versatility at larger tracks, or at least an SV.

Difference is next year first round if I pick my way to the front then round two I'd have a good grid. Starting in the middle of the year, your chances to get back to a good grid position are lower. I know what you mean though.

That yammy is sick... but expensive and I don't want a built motor. Same story for the Erion. The 09 seems like a good deal but needs 2k in suspension...

LOL read my first post... I'll get that tard if you promise to do all the maintenance and rebuild the motor when it blows up... and buy me another bike for big tracks... thanks cupcake

I mean, the goal in returning would be to do a full season, I like the points battle and starts and getting good grids and battling for the podium. Starting from the back sucks. But yeah, I do want to do it for fun, try some other tracks, and do some track days (still want to try NYST and Thompson, etc). So I could do a semi-serious return for the second half of this season.

FYI there is a 250cc class with CCS. The 13-14 year olds are really F'n fast in that class.

    Re: Hmm, how to return?

that MOB R6 is a Graves bike, its sick. buy it and destroy us all down the straight with your motor.

no idea if that 09 CBR has the suspension done or not, just says its sprung for 180lbs. register for any SS race at the Classic and ride my bike. if you like it I pick this up that week for you.

the Erion/HRC one is probably pretty reliable. moto2 engines are just HRC cbr600 engines and they rarely ever blow.

125 lap record at Thunderbolt is like 1:26 or 1:27. I'd have to ask Jake again but that's insane fast.

Jim NJMP is 5.5-6 unless you hit bad traffic in NYC. I don't know how that's the same as Summit which is 2 hours further away.
