    truck bed security

sup sup...ideas for dirtbike security in truck bed?

want to bring dirty bike and stay on strip in Vegas...

also considering local storage (through dealership, or public storage garages)

reddit post said - if too big PITA and looks complicated, he'd pass...but in Vegas, it's not pro's - also junkies..needs to do more than look complicated

    here's my plan:
    1.) cover w' cable lock
    2.) lockstraps through the handlebars

3.) chain lock through bike frame (or rear wheel) and locked into truck bed d-ring
4.) cable lock through bike frame and d-ring
5.) alarmed disc lock on rear wheel, bed alarm
6.) backup truck against wall so can't lower tailgate - under security camera, near security guard at the "large vehicle parking" at Ny NY's parking garage....or Valet

so I figure - homeboy has to be dumb enough to attempt this in front of a guard, under a security camera, get through the cover, decide he wants a 20 year old ratted out dirt bike, mandatory cutting through lock straps, heavy duty motorcycle chain, cable lock, somehow do all this while truck bed alarm is going off, pick up the bike over the bed, then...

7.) drop front wheel - on a dirtbike, take out the axle, wheel drops right out - put it in a wheel bag, and take it into the room

...he has to move the bike without a front wheel. it sucks...need a few guys to lift it.

takes me like 3 mins to remove the 3 locks...and about 15 mins to put on a wheel...so less than 20 mins of work not so bad for me...PITA for him

Have you considered that some might see that it's easier to steal the truck with the bonus bike in the back? Be sure to drain the gas, pull all the fuses, take the ujoint out, install a kill switch, unhook the battery, and take a tire with you when you leave.

    I wouldn't think so...2001 Ford F-150??

I posted on another forum for people who drive to vegas...and a response I got was that it wasn't necessary...

although I like keeping the honest people honest - I'm getting the lockstraps; then just use the other 2 locks and it should be enough of a PITA

Frankly, that wouldn't be enough anyway. If someone wants it what's to stop them from stealing a tow-truck and hooking you up? You really need to take all four wheels with you. Also take a plasma cutter to any hookup points on the frame to prevent them from getting a chain hooked up. You might consider welding the entire getup to a nearby bridge? Frankly, at the end of the day you need to remember that you'll always have to sacrifice convenience for security or vice-versa.

    TLDR: Whoosh.

What's to say they won't steal the bridge too? Bike, truck AND a bridge? That's like the most amazing package deal ever.

Hey buddy, I've got a bridge to sell you. Buy now and I'll toss in a couple of extras.

Eh, Bridges are hard to sell. I've been sitting on this one in Brooklyn for YEARS...

That lockstrap looks awfully easy to unlock... Bet I could open er up in about half a second with the little tiny 1.8" serrated hawkbill I have in my pocket.

    Re: truck bed security

they have a steel braided cable running the length of the strap..."which renders wire cutters and bolt cutters useless, and stops knives in their tracks"

seems like you can use the knife to cut the nylon part, expose the braided cable, then cut that with bolt cutters...but I figure cutting through 2 of those, the heavy duty moto chain through the frame, the disc lock, lifting the bike over the bed...blah blah...pita

As someone who has been to Vegas many times, theft out there is very high, but casinos obviously want business, you may be able to call and discuss it and park right next to a security booth or something

    good tip -

I also read that parking valet is a good option, and when I went to the parking garage at ny, ny, there was a "oversized vehicle" parking area right next to the security booth...so I tipped the dude and asked him to keep an eye out, then also parked it under a security camera, and backed up the tailgate against a wall so the tailgate wouldn't go down.

While valet is nice out there, I believe that the slip they hand you is an agreement that they are not responsible for any personal belongings in the car

I figure any sort of parking out there is a bit of a risk...but it's Vegas, try to set the odds in your favor and roll the dice!

Light the whole thing on fire. Scorched earth policy is the only reliable method of security.

Get a good hammer and chisel, then bury the whole thing in concrete. When you are ready to leave, a couple chips with the hammer and you're ready to roll.
    You're welcome....
