The Power of the Quick Turn

We often teach quick turning when we work with one-on one students at TTD events. It's also something Keith Code preaches. Do You use the Power of the Quick Turn? http://www.ridinginthezone.com/the-p...he-quick-turn/

Thanks Ken. What's a couple good exit turns at Thompson to work on this?
    Thanks.

Re: The Power of the Quick Turn

Why do we quick turn in 6 but peel it over slow in 3?

Re: The Power of the Quick Turn

Quick turning corners at Thompson include turn 4 and Turn 8. Turn 1 can also be a quick turn...but not if you trailbrake deeply (as a matter of fact, this pertains to most corners...a turn that would normally be a quick turn needs to be a slower turn if you trailbrake).
Maxim, are you talking about NHMS? If so, then Turn 3 is a quick turn if you don't trailbrake, but is definitely a quick turn if you don't. Same goes for Turn 6. If you trail the brakes, then the turn becomes more of a slower turn in.

Hmm, I used to love flicking the bike going into 3 (Loudon) and then...

Re: The Power of the Quick Turn

    As always, great write up!

Ken is there any opinion what technique is better for turn 3 at NHMS? My guess is they both have advantages but the main deciding factor might be set up for a pass? I had to think really hard whether I quick turn or trail brake in 3 as I feel its so close to being either but I'm pretty sure I quick turn because its more of an abrupt tip in (or flick) after hard braking so I am always pointed for the inside curbing coming out as opposed to running wide, and by doing this I seem to be able to get on the gas a lot sooner than most which makes up for the power of my SV vs big bike trying to get over the hill.

The first turn that came to mind as I was reading though was T11. Is this a turn that would benefit enormously focusing on quick turning as it would set you up better for 11A and 12? T11 is my least favorite turn and I seem to struggle on finding the correct line and its lack of camber makes it deceiving!

Re: The Power of the Quick Turn

T3 is a quickturn for certain. You CAN quickturn and trail brake together and T3 is one place to do it. T 11 is more of a gradual turn in as you are leaned over on approach braking and downshifting.
