trackday evenings and camping and such

who camps out at the track for the trackdays, or whole race weekend for that matter? How is it just pitching a tent? I think i'm gonna go out and pick one up finally.

Also, what is the monday evening plan for after the track closes?

dinner, trackwalk, and motoGP rerun??

I'll be camping the remainder of the 2-day events. This is the tent I'm going to pick up:

Adventure Truck Tent

I think our Weber will fit nicely in the trailer. Anyone up for some BBQing on Monday nights???

You get the coolest track accesories for your truck! BBQ sounds like a good idea.

I'll be camping with my popup camper. I used a tent last year and I was fine.

Re: trackday evenings and camping and such

I slept in a friends trailer who was racing that weekend. Spent all day Sunday and then Sunday night at the track...

We just kind of kicked around, watched some AMA races on a lap top..nothing too exciting. But it was cheap, and I woke up just a few minutes before people started showing up Monday morning.

hell yeah! of course at this point I can't even back up my 6x12 trailer in a straight line so I don't think you'd want me at the controls of the RV.

Matt...i've seen you back that RV into spots I wouldn't dare back my Tacoma into....you da man!

Re: trackday evenings and camping and such

Yeah, I usually tent it from Saturday to Tuesday, but this past race/track day weekend Rob & Kiera let Jenni & I crash in their Circus Tent on Saturday night & Gino was kind enough to let me live the high live & sleep in his trailer on Sunday & Monday night. My tent is (or WAS) about 15 years old so it was none too waterproof... I ended up taking it down, rolling it up into a big ball (old ass twin sized aerobed included) and "packing" it all into a trash barrell

Anyway, I digress... I'll be picking up a new bigass tent for the next race/TD weekend though for sure, along with a new bigass inflatable mattress

Space heaters and/or heated blankets are highly recommended in the spring & fall. Summer months aren't usually too chilly, you can usually get away w/o.

Hey, just cause it is the size of my condo does not make it a circus tent. Huge, sure, but there are no midgets in there.

yet.

Tenting is usually fine, and if it is super rainy (to the point where you think you will blow away) there are usually multiple folks who are willing and able to share space in trailers or RVs. We have a little space heater that we got at Walmart last spring (or the previous fall) for $20 that works wonders in the sub-50 nights, and a little fan for when it gets hot at night mid-summer. In two years of camping at the track there have only been two nights that were so bad we couldn't stay int he tent. One was a monsoon (high winds and heavy rains for around 12 hours straight) and we just went home (about a half hour away), and one was overnight temps of about 35 degrees with heavy rain, and we stayed in the bus courtesy of Oxx and Amanda. There have been rough nights, but nothing intolerable like those two. And sometimes we just wuss out and take people up on their offers for a change of scenery.

Re: trackday evenings and camping and such

My first time staying at the track was this last time of a fun filled day of Rain.

I showed up early as I was told there was a track walk @ 5:30, plus seminars and bench racing and dinner....Got there and nothing, CRAP!

Got to meet a few cool peoples though!!!

Slept in my shitty ass truck all night, listening to the pitter patter of rain....

wake up and no track day. I prolly would have crashed anyways...

Trailer gets a flat tire & I changed it in the rain....Oh Well...

go home unload everything in the pouring rain, pull bike off trailer, notice it leaning waaaay over,WTF? lift bike up and the fuckin kickstand falls off...

after all that....I would Still will do it again, just for those few hours on the track, even though I never been on the track YET!

I will be camping on sunday night, have a couple tents if anyone needs to borrow one, They go up in minutes....

See you all then!

Yeah... sorry about that. After being in the rain for 8 hours, everyone sort of voted for getting the hell away from the track.... and certainly no one wanted to walk it in pouring down rain.

We cancelled the dinner for 100 people when it looked like we wouldn't be able to scare up 10 people.

Assuming no repeat of the weather, the only questionable item for this time is the dinner. We are still hashing things out with the track on the whole food thing.

I hope to give out some more firm information towards the end of May.

This year I'm bringing a popup camper and staying at the track for all the events. The added gas actually works out to not much less than a room at the Red Roof, but "camping" at the track is cool!

Re: trackday evenings and camping and such

I have a Sportz III tent for the back of my truck and slept at the track from Friday through Tuesday the April race/trackday weekend. It was cold one night because I didn't prepare right, but toasty warm and dry the rest of the time even in the pouring rain. If you're tenting, make sure you have an inflatable mattress, it makes a huge difference.

I've got a copper fire pit. I burn Friday and Saturday if I can find enough pallets. Maybe we can be able to burn Monday night to cut a little bit of the chill while chatting. (not in the garages)

Anyone want to bring up some wood? Maybe some graham crackers and marshmallows and chocolate.

yea i can bring some wood. i'm not sure if i'll be able to get up there this weekend though because of a lot of other things i've got to catch up on w/ school and stuff.

yea jaynnus i've been splitting a room at the redroof which I like and isn't toooooo expensive, but I don't really end up spending too much time there. really just a place to sleep and shower. i asked about camping because considering the amound of money i end up spending on beer, food, candy, last minute walmart crap, etc. when i get up there, i've gotta cut costs somethere!

You're also not to be trusted with a hatchet... so I suggest bringing pre cut firewood... : )

Camp at the track. It builds character.

I feel like I lived there for the last five years. I'm starting to miss it. I'll be up for a race weekend or two this year for sure.

We went through 3 tents over the years. Torrential rains, wind and sun just beat the snot out of them. I would often camp thurs-sun.

Any one interested in a conversion van? It's great for camping. The power back seat unfolds to a queen size bed. The inside has leather captain chairs, walnut trim and built in t.v. It has a high top so you can stand up in the back. I'm looking to sell it to buy a dedicated track bike. I'm hooked on this track addiction so I'll sell it really cheap.

Re: trackday evenings and camping and such

You should whip up an ad for it.

I was very close to getting a conversion van... then ended up with a full sized motorhome.

For trackday use, the van would be the smart move... especially if you have a trailer.

I'll take some pictures and list it. If I still have it by June it will have a for sale sign in the window. The head room makes it nice for changing and plenty of storage compartments. I was the guy on the red FZ1 and looking to upgrade to a bike more at home at the track.

See, you just aren't spending your money right at the moment. You're on the right track though. Do a bit of cornerworking so you get in free and eat dinner for free on saturday (I know you do anyway, but it's a great money-saving tool), drink all the beers you can there and then mooch s'mores off Gino once you're nice and trashed. That way you have more cash for last minute wal-mart crap, and spend less time buying beer and scavenging for food. not to mention you can get as messy as you want and you don't have to drive anywhere
