Teaming up with Tony and crew, we're happy to be able to offer Track day DVDs!

General footage will be recorded during the track day, which will then be professionally edited and distributed to riders wishing to purchase a copy. Additionally, you can rent a camera from us to record your laps and we will put your footage on a custom version of your Track Day DVD.

Paying in advance for either the DVD, or the rental, will qualify you for a $10 discount.

Rentals and DVDs purchased the day of the event will be priced as follows.

Track Day DVD $30
Camera Rental & Custom DVD $50

Click here to reserve a camera rental, or prepay for a DVD!

Please be sure to reserve a slot for the group in which you anticipate you will be riding. Check the schedule for details.

Cool.
How do you guys plan on handling mounting cameras to different bikes... or by "camera rental" do you mean rent the time of someone with a camera to follow you around?

Re: Track Day DVDs & Camera Rental July 15 & 16

The camera is the Gopro Motorsports Hero. I comes with various mounting options. Its got a clamp mechanism that can clamp to anything tubular (such as a fairing stay), its got a suction cup mount, and if all else fails its got a helmet strap, so you will be riding with the camera.

After looking at all the cameras out there I firmly believe this is the best option as far as quality/resolution and frame rate. I've already tested it thoroughly with DVDs and the quality is top notch. It records at 720 x 480 @ 30 frames per second and is very clear video given its small size. Its also waterproof.

Re: Track Day DVDs & Camera Rental July 15 & 16

Any chance someone (me) could rent the camera, and have it mounted to one of the instructors bikes, and have them follow me for a lap or 2 or 3?

That I could see value in...

Any instructors think they'd be willing to do that?

For anyone interested here is a test video. i purposely chose a really bumpy road about midway through to see how the camera handeled the vibrations. Also, Youtube craped down the quality.

+ YouTube Video
ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

We have video cams on several instructor bikes, as well as Mike's bike (Mr Kurtz is our "official" on board video bike).

Anyway, the video Mike takes is for instructional purposes... we use it in the classroom.

The video that Spydah will be taking is more for "hey, this is what I do in my spare time" type of stuff. I know lots of people simply have no idea what you mean when you say you do 'trackdays', so this would be a cool way to show them.

Keep in mind that the video you get on DVD will be much clearer than what you see posted online, since Youtube and others degrade the quality so much.

Makes sense...

Wouldn't it be possible for someone to use the video/DVD that Spydah takes for "self assessment" instructional purposes?

I was thinking, something of high quality that I could keep and not only show people what my new hobby is, but use it to critique myself and have others critique my line as well...

Thoughts?

Absolutely, the quality is high enough that you will be able to see the markers and get an idea of where you are on the track.

Additionally, we've been discussing the possibility of offering an actual recorded critique in which a voice over would be added to your footage critiquing your riding and offering advice. This will likely be offered later in the season as we get the overall process nailed down and solidify the current offering.

Re: Track Day DVDs & Camera Rental July 15 & 16

Yep... we're open to all possibilities... as long as safety is never compromised.

Mike (Mr Kurtz), along with the instructors, has been trained in how to safely record people using video. While it may sound simple, it is not just a matter of following someone around.

Having complete awareness of what is going on around you while videoing is critical. And knowing when to break off and stop following is also important.

Remember this for any riders that have a camera and are following their buddies. Never sacrifice safety of yourself and fellow trackday riders just to stay with the person.

I'm sold...

Anything I can do to improve my skills, I'm gonna do...

I'll reserve a camera and see if I can bribe one of the instructors to follow me around...

Looking forward to the 15th and 16th!!!

Brad,
The instructors are pretty busy and it's not realistic to expect an instructor to follow only one person around for a whole session.

You can ask an instuctor to view your video later and offer suggestions.

You can also ask Mike Kurtz to make a point of following you for a bit and ask your instructor to use your footage in the classsroom to make comments.

Don't be shy(that goes for everyone), I'm in the corner of the garage opposite Tony, blue R6 with Cyclegear decals all over it and "Mr. Kurtz" on the headlight. Anyone who specifically wants me to follow them for a little bit so the instructors can view it in the classroom, come say hi, tell me what you're riding.

EDIT: Earlier in the day is probably best, that will usually make it more likely your group instructor will get to the video in the classroom.

Maybe I should mount one of these cameras on the wing for Tuesday. Could be a fun perspective! Do they record sound? I could play my own background music...LOL

Yes they do record sound. Not sure how the quality is. My bike is mad loud and distorts it. I havent tried on other bikes yet.

Sound quality on the GoPro is pretty good, actually. Of course, wind blast messes with it, but it you mounted it behind the dashboard...I mean windshield...of the Goldwing it should pick up the radio.

Yeah...I was kidding about the fact that it would work...although I do think it'd be awesome to hear the Goldwing's stereo blasting on the track.

I'm gonna pass this time. Too much else going on this week. I would appreciate Mike following me around a bit though.
