New to this forum...from East Hartford, CT

Hey guys,

Thought I'd introduce myself here. I'm new to this forum, but not to riding. I rode and raced motocross since I was 4 until 22...and then got into street riding. I worked in the parts department of a local shop for three years or so as well.

I just traded in my RC51 and picked up a 2008 Ducati 1098S at the encouragement of my wife before we try to have our first baby. I'll post up some pics when I get it finished. I ordered a few goodies for it that I want to put on before posting up the pics.

Anyway, if anyone wants to do some riding this season or head out to bike nights...feel free to drop me a message. I'm not into riding all crazy on the street though. I need my license for work, and I have to be "insurable" or I'll be selling everything while I find a new career. That and the street's not the place to ride overly aggressive anyway. This doesn't mean I ride the speed limit all the time...but I don't try to go as fast as I can on the street. I've ridden with guys that ride like that and I don't enjoy it. The wife and I are also going to try to make it to as many bike nights as we can this season...so if anyone knows where they're going to be this year, feel free to share the information.

Shane

Re: New to this forum...from East Hartford, CT

I think I probably will at one point this year. I'm curious to see what it will really do. I only have 30 miles on it so far thanks to the weather. From those 30 miles though, I'll bet it would be a blast on the track. It's the most fun motorcycle I've ever ridden. It just made me want to keep riding when I took it out. And from what I understand, the Duc's take about 1500-2000 miles before they settle in and really come to life. I can't wait. Don't be surprised if you find me at a track day sometime this year though.

Welcome... be prepare to bring along a comfortable pair of walking shoes if you join a group ride.

For some reason we have a tendency to leaves Ducs on the side of the road.

As for Bike nights... I'm sure bigred will be setting some rides up for Suzy Qs... maybe Thayer St if that's not shut down this year.

Re: New to this forum...from East Hartford, CT

There is a bike night, every Thursday night, in Springfield MA. Altho I rarely head out to this event, as I'd rather be riding the backroads than parking the bike downtown. Both my husband and I ride and we're always looking for new riders, seems your pace would suit us well. Altho we are over the speed limits all the time, we never dgo over triple digits (at least, I don't, but the husband does from time to time when riding alone)

We're in Southwick MA, not too far from you. Head towards Simsbury/Granby CT and we're right over the Granby's line...

It's a hike, but every Tuesday, there is a motorcycle night in Lowell Mass that is pretty big. Check out motorcyclenight.com if you're interested in learning more.

Oh yeah, and welcome!

Welcome to NESR!
Thanks for the welcome everyone. I'm definitely familiar with the Southwick area. I used to race up at Southwick when I was still racing motocross. Not to mention that Route 57 can be one of my favorite roads when heading north. I sometimes run Route 20 to 8 to 57 and back down to head south towards home. A beautiful area up there.

I'd be interested in getting together to do some riding. I don't usually do the speed limit myself...but I have to avoid the "wreckless driving" speeds for the most part. I've done them and will do them from time to time. But I can't take that chance. It also depends on where I am...sometimes I can get a little "professional courtesy" from an officer if I get stopped. It all depends on his mood and if we've ever worked similar areas.

I think a better way to describe how I ride would be following the style of "the pace." For those that aren't familiar, here's a link...Motorcycle Riding Pacing Tips - Sport Rider It's a decent way to make riding fun and stay out of trouble on the streets.

Once it gets a little warmer and I finish putting the bike back together...we'll do some riding. My parts should be in this week. I ordered some Pazzo levers, a set of adjustable Acculign rearsets and a set of Ti Akrapovic slip-on's. They should all be in by the end of the week and Sunday is my day to spend in the garage putting it together.
