From Ware, MA

Hi there, from Ware, MA. My name is Greg and I am older than I feel when I am in the saddle. I have a lovely wife and two lovely daughters who often drive me friggin' crazy. I currently ride a 1996 Triumph 885 Thunderbird Adventurer and a 2000 DRZ400S. I have an extensive history in dirt bikes and the Triumph is my 2nd real street bike (I had a Kawasaki EX500 for about a year).
I do all of my own work and am often accused of giving away the farm when it comes to helping others with their bikes. I have a small machine shop at my disposal and often make small parts or perform parts mods for myself and others (it's a good way to make new friends, even better than, say, owning a truck).
I love Dual Sporting! Hence, the DRZ. In both street and dirt environments I ride what I describe as medium fast.
I am looking forward to meeting some of the folks on this site and getting a Trials bike next.
So, a big Hello! from Ware.

Hey there, MissT! You know me as Britbike from the "On Two Wheels" Masslive forum.
BTW- Did I mention that I am also a friend of Tony Ianarelli's? We have dirt ridden together a couple of times and he is a great guy! I haven't seen him in a while, but I hope to get out there and see him this year.

Hey Greg... welcome to the crazy house. If you promise to take it easy on me, I'd like to hook up with me on my KLR650. Just don't take me on the trails I can't even do on my WR!!!

PS: For those that don't know Greg... he's one of the nicest people you'll ever meet.

Thanks, all! I hope to ride with as many of you as I can this year. My Triumph is no sport bike, but it's no chopper either.
Tony, thank you for the kind words! I'd love to get out and explore some dirt roads and trails with you on our dual sports as soon as all of the ice is gone.
Greg

MissT, Yes, indeed, I am here because of *you*. Really. I was a member of the old site long ago, but your recent posting of this link prompted me to get back in.
So, Thank You! I hope to ride with you as well, and is that your Black EX500?? I loved mine! I did not want to sell it, but the girl that I had purchased it from was killed (thrown from a horse) and I work with her father, so I just could not keep it. It was all so sad.
In any case, I really like my Triumph!

Yup, it is my 500, a hundred times better now (well ok...it's still just a 500...lol) but I had all the plastics redone after I purchased it with broken fairings. It looks like new now.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend's daughter...that is really sad.

Re: From Ware, MA

MissT, yes it was very sad. It seems that the older I get the more tragedy has touched my life. My youngest daughter's long time boyfriend was also killed a bit over a year ago as well. He hit a chain that was strung across a trail while he was riding a quad. We are all still working on that one. He was like a son to me, and the whole thing just tore my family apart in many ways. There was some twisted irony there in that he left us with.... a horse. You just have to laugh at that. I still thank him every day. Riding has and will alway be be salvation for my soul.
Anyway, I hate to be a downer for everybody here, so enough of that.
I get as much enjoyment out of working on my bikes as I do from riding them.
So, come on sunshine and warmth!

Re: From Ware, MA

oh man, I'm so sorry to hear that. That's gotta be rough

(Here's where I'd usually crack a joke & say I'm talking about you knowing MissTwisties, but 1, I already used that joke once in this thread & 2 it's no where near to being approprate based on the circumstances. It really is a shame you've lost two close friends in that way & I'm sorry for those losses. Glad to have ya with us here on NESR )

Welcome (back) Greg! Care to elaborate on what your super-secret identity was on 'the old site'? Actually, just what was 'the old site'?

Re: From Ware, MA

Yes, SRNE. I guess that the term "Old Site" is not exactly correct. It was just the site that Tony had introduced me to years ago.
I have been patiently waiting for the weather to warm up, just like everybody else. I have had the Triumph out a couple of times, and all it proved was that I am not as weather tolerant as I used to be. The DRZ has been getting some exercise, but for the most part, I have just been hopping around on the Beta in the yard. I swear, I am going to kill myself on that thing! My wife was watching me hopping some giant tree stumps last night, and she agrees! I never thought that riding at 2 MPH was going to be so life threatening. Boy, was I wrong. I keep attacking things like it is a motocross bike, and it feels like the frame and wheels are made of Aluminum foil. I eventually try to sit down, and my knees try to knock out my teeth!
If the temps hit 60 this weekend, I'll be trying to mount my new rear tire on the Triumph, and replace the chain and sprockets as well. I have never mounted a tire this size before (160/80-16, tube type), so I hope all goes well.
