Well, I've already posted a few times for help with my R1 and figured I'd introduce myself now. The name is Chris/ christos. I'm from Hyde Park but spend a lot of time in Quincy. I had a fzr 600 2 years ago that I rebuilt in my living room and sold it a few months later. No bike last year. Bought an 01 R1 2-3 weeks ago. Polished frame, after market rims,etc, Fixed all the little things it needed and I wrecked it yesterday about 15 seconds away from my house. I hit a spot on the road full of sand (on a curve) and ended up going straight into the curb at 35mph or so. Bike flipped on me and got dragged about 30-40 feet.

Bike has a lot of broken fairings, scratched up stator cover, the tranny seems to shift through only 3-4 gears and no neutral. When propped up, the gap under the cowl is bigger on one side. Wheel seems to face the right when steering is straight. It leaked a little gas and now it won't start (prob. clogged). I thought about jsut fixing it without going through the insurance to avoid ruining my perfect record but I think I'm just going to file a claim tmrw. I insured it for $8,000 so hopefully I get something close to that even though I paid a lot less for it. I also hope they let me buy it back so I can part it out.

As for me, I escaped with just a LOT of bruises. Helmet and jacket took the brunt of it.

Hopefully, I can get on another liter bike within a month.

Out of curiosity, any reason it has to be another liter-bike?

There are other excellent choices in the sub-liter catagory.

Not doggin' on you but it seems like you may bitten off more than you can chew with this bike....why not try to graduate to a liter with a little time?

Before I bought this I was looking for a 750 because honestly I was scared of the 1000cc. After riding it for about 5 minutes I was used to the power. I rode everyday and put about 3-400 miles on it in the last 2 weeks. I am very, very comfortable with the power. I mean the power is really only there when you want it.

The accident was more or less a freak accident (kinda). The sand and gravel was right on the turn. It whipped the front towards the right and the rear to the left. I was able to save it but ran out of room and went straight into the corner curb where there was a lot more sand to deal with.

Like I said, I've been taking it slowly on the bike only because I know I'm a new rider and need to get used to this bike. Obviously, easy to ride on the highway and I've been practicing on the twisties with speed. That night though, I was going pretty slow. I just went out for a 5 minute ride and on the way back---well, you know

What you get is up to you I have a 600 and I am considering getting a 250 just to piddle around on, on the side. Better to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow so they say I might check that out. To each their own though, glad you're ok.

hey chris, glad you made it out in one piece! take it as a good learning experience, ya know? shit happens, which is why we wear quality gear.

i'm sure you'll get whatever bike you want, just keep a cool head on your shoulders. there are a bunch of us in the area to ride with...

hey....that looks kinda familiar...

Chris....what happened to you would a happened on a 600 or an SV650 or most any bike. However, what happened to you WAS due to inexperience! (No offense intended dude!)

I have no horse in this race and could care less what you ride. But there is something to be said for a TWIN...SV650/SV1000/any Ducati/. It isn't so much about the difference in raw horsepower but rather the way that power is delivered. So, were it me, I'd consider a Twin!

Wow, after reading just a couple posts, I was fully expecting this thread to go for PAGES... As others have said, consider something less powerful (do a search around the site, you might see some good information) but I will join the club wear what you want, ride what you want etc etc

exactly what I was gonna say.... Minus the ANOYING repetative tag line. If you don't give a fuck then don't post.

This had virtually NOTHING to do with what kind of bike he was riding at the time.... but that's not to say the NEXT one (if there is a next one) won't.

I was from Milton. I used to race for Sportster Specialties. Are they still in Hyde Park.
I just bought a 250 to add to the collection and putt around on. The bike is a blast. Great handling!
I know a lot of ppl form Quincy.
