Hello

Just like to introduce myself. I'm completly new to the world of riding, but hope that won't last to long. I don't have a bike yet but plan on getting one after I get back from my soon to be vacation to sunny Iraq. But before I go I requested a spot in a BRC in August, for I have never rode before either. Hope to see you all around.

Re: Hello

Thanks for the quick and warm welcome. And yeh the class is soon to be required military wide to be able to ride on posts and bases. So I figured I'd do it now before a lot more people sign up, I just hope I can get one of the 12 seats. Plus it'll only help me learn good basic riding skills rather than learn bad habits on my own.

Re: Hello

It has been required to ride on base for a while. Now they are making it mandatory if you ride period.

I think it's a great idea myself. I've seen many a kid come off deployment and think he needs a Litre bike.... with bad results.

The class is CURRENTLY required military wide... and has been for a number of years. (at least since 1991 when I first took it). It just has not been enforced on the reserve/guard side.

Where are you stationed out of?

Re: Hello

I wouldn't go with the 750. Don't let that 750 fool you, it's more than a new rider needs. Hell most modern Super Sport 600 are way more than a new rider needs. Look at the GS500f or the Ninja 500 or 250. The new Ninja 250 is a damn nice looking machine.

Re: Hello

No No No. The 750 is what I'd like to get after a few years of riding. I was looking at the GS500F but not 100% sure. I'd like to get one thats comfortable to ride and not to aggressive with seat position and all that jazz.

Thanks, I don't even remotly plan on jumping into this headfirst without knowing what I'm ganna be getting myself into. I just got my permit last week, in case someone is willing enough to let me ride down the block and back, then hopefully the class in August. And lots of reading and asking questions inbetween.

I am AGR in Vermont. Just became an MSF coach.

Sounds like you have a good plan.

Have you heard of the Green Knights?

Re: Hello

The Green Knights are a Military mentorship program. Basically a motorcycle club for military people. We educate about the regs, mentor new riders, do rides and donate to charities.

It started on the Air side but has expanded to other services.

I am not familiar with your area but there may be a chapter near by... If not you could start one. Or be a member at large.

Re: Hello

Cool I'll look into it because I know there are a couple of riders in my unit that belong to a group but I can't remember their name.
