Greetings

Hello all, I don't think I will get the same response as the new girl from manchester, but that is understandable.

I heard about your site from a guy on galantvr4.org. This is second riding year and looking to find some time to get out. I have two things coming up that are going to cramp the style first is surgery to my shoulder, I have no idea how long that will screw things up, and the second is next month i will be a dad (first time that I know of) and I should be able to go riding again in 18 short years after that one.

I picked up the S3 as I learned on dirt bikes and like that riding position. Its sort of like a pug, you look at it and say nice or ugly f-ing bike.

I live in West Roxbury near dedham line, hope to meet up with some peeps soon.

Carl

Re: Greetings

Hey doc,

Thanks, everyone can thank my wife, she said something to the effect of, " hey pussy get on a bike" when all the boys got bmx's she got her first 80cc dirtbike. The boy isn't born yet and her dad is already doing the rebuild and changing from pink to flat black so he can have his first bike. Gotta love parents from NH. Are you near sunnapee area? I was up there a couple of weeks ago and we went by Ascutney and Okemo and then all over the area, you have some great roads in VT.

How are the roads up in Andover area, do you have to go far to get back roading? Seems like I have to go all over to get away from city ding bats.

Because when you live in the armpit of the state, you need something to make you feel cool.

Just a guess on my part, I've only lived there 2 years.

You see, ManchVegas (also Manch-Vegas) is a local nickname for Manchester, New Hampshire. The term is a portmanteau of Manchester and Las Vegas. "ManchVegas" was derived from illegal gambling in local businesses during the late 1980s or early '90s. Many pizza shops and local bars had video poker machines that would pay out real money. The nickname was coined following a city-wide bust of these machines. It was then adopted as a lampoon of the city's limited entertainment opportunities. Recently the term has become a source of pride as the city's entertainment scene has grown.

A 2003 note on Virtualtourist.com notes, "Residents reflect the regional dry humor by referring to sedate Manchester as 'ManchVegas'."

An article in Manchester's Hippo Press (a local alternative weekly) in August, 2005, noted that then-Manchester Mayor Robert A. Baines, "is pushing to replace the nickname ManchVegas with Manchhatten" (meaning Manchester+Manhattan).

Other, much less commonly used, nicknames are "ManchAngeles" (Manchester+Los Angeles), students at Manchester Central High School started using the term Manchvegistan (referencing the city's immigrant population). Central is known for having the most diverse student body in the state of New Hampshire.

See? I didn't know most of that! I won't just think of it as a white trash attempt at being cool anymore.

Re: Greetings

I think chris would win on Jeopardy where as I had to look up how to spell it.

KillBill, quite humorous, yes most of the newbs have been woman, sorry to let you down, my avatar may have to become what your movie name carries. It may not be a Hanzo, but its Wootz damascus.

Anyone else on here sporting a Speed triple, I did see on guy just bought a Daytona and already wants to race it. I wouldn't want to do that with my one and only.

And billy, when you said you lived in dedham I almost expected you to be 50.
