Actually, I dont know what WGI not running bikes is all about, but I can tell you that a good portion of the money they make each year comes from the NASCAR race there.:dunno:Quote:

Update:
Well, I just got back from Vermont, where IDX flew me out for a final round of in-person interviews. Six hours of meeting anybody who I'd be working with on a regular basis. So the waiting game begins, as to if I get an offer, and if it is good enough to move cross-country for. The job opportunity is good enough, but the compensation needs to be in-line as well....wait and see.....
But Brrr...it was cccccooold that weekend, colder than I remembered and probably didn't leave a "warming" impression on my wife, who is a Bay Area native. :dunno: I kept telling her how awesome the rest of the year is ;)
I'm sure you've already taken this into consideration, but cost of living is muuuch different out here than it is in the bay area, especially as you get further away from boston.Quote:

I don't know much about vermont in terms of taxes, but when I was looking at the idea of moving west last year from NH, if you add up all the extra costs associated with CA living in terms of income tax, auto registration and insurance, sales tax, gasoline prices, and home costs...well for me at least, it worked out to I would need to make around 20-30% more out there to live in the same manner that I am out here.
Of course, you can't put a price on year round temperate weather (not to mention legal splitting!), the idea of left coast living has not left my head, I just need to save up a bit more first :hmm:

But if your wife hates the cold, its something to consider - Vermont has 4 VERY DEFINITE seasons. There are three solid months of cold, snowy winter, a muddy spring, a (usually) hot summer, and temperate, comfortable fall.
I usually get about 8 months of riding in before the roads get salty and I dont want to ride anymore.

Yeah I've given the cost of living a lot of thought. As long as the comp package is close I think its a good opportunity for my career. The main issue is that we're a dual salary family now, getting by in the bay area fairly well and making enough to save for a house here but by no means doing well enough to be a single-earner to start a family here and be home owners.
That's a big attraction for me and Vermont, as likely I'd be the sole provider for a bit while my wife looked for work as well, she's an Oracle DBA. We'd be able to afford a nice house based on the difference between the Bay Area and VT housing markets alone

Yeah we love the winter and spend the weekends in Tahoe snowboarding during the winter months, just when we come home from the weekend its 50 degrees ;-) I think it'll be fine, just a big adjustment moving from the big city to the small town aspect. And of course getting used to the cold on a day-to-day basis. I think being thrown into bleak 10 degree and lower weather from mild SF was a bit of a shock for her.
