    Hey all

New to this forum but I have been riding since 96. From western MA. I've owned 6 street bikes all Honda CBRs. Currently own a 13 600rr Repsol & a 98 F3 Smokin Joe's replica. Have been wanting to ride the track for years & am thinking next season will be the year for my first track day. Currently kicking around ideas for a track bike.

    Re: Hey all

If you want a track bike just get an SV and be done with it. Otherwise put one of the ones you have on the track.

I actually started track days on a Goldwing, so there's nothing wrong with starting out on your street bike. Just don't crash.

What are your requirements for a track bike?

    Re: Hey all

    Welcome to the forum.

Sounds like ya got a couple of excelent track bikes in the garage already. I recommend using one of those bikes before investing a boat ton of cash into a track only bike before you know if you even like it or not. You'll also get to know your street bikes better so that when you're on the street and something happens you're more aware of its capabilities.

If you're worried about crashing your street bike, YOU and you alone would be the one that would increase that chance... You're on the same bike, same pavement, same tires, same rider.... So long as you have the ability to ride the same way you do on the street your chances of crashing should be LESS on the track in a controlled environment.

    Re: Hey all

Thanks for the welcome. I'm looking at an 07/08 cbr 600 rr for use on the track. I have owned an 07 & it's near identical to my 13 so what I learn from the track will translate to my street riding.

Here is why I am looking for a track day only bike. It is easier to have a bike that is just set up for track rather than going from street to track & back. It will also give me something to work on over the long winter months. I have no desire to track either bike I currently have.

You're right.... I had to do that for two years back when I rode my street bike on the track and i've had to do the same to my girlfriends bike twice this year.

The 4 and a half minutes it takes to remove the mirrors, remove the license plate and disconnect the tail light are excruciating

Maybe I just don't get it. There's not a bike out there that I wouldn't ride on the track if it can be ridden on the street.

I love riding my street bike on the track. Makes it much cheaper and easier. Making it track ready takes 2 seconds at the track and there are always people to lend a hand in the process the night before or the morning of. (of course it's much better to do it the night before).

Ya I hear ya. I can never figure out why some have a problem with people who want a dedicated track bike. It always sparks debate & thinking I should have left it out of my intro.

Just trying to assist in keeping you from spending money on a track bike before you try the track...

Hell....who are we kidding. You're gonna love it. Buy away haha.

Don't mean to make you think I'm against people having dedicated track bikes, cuz I'm not. Have one of my own.

But the track's expensive enough as it is, ESPECIALLY the start-up costs and I don't see a reason to make it more expensive than it has to be... For those that aren't familiar w/ the expenses of riding on the track, buying a dedicated track bike can put you in a financial hole before you even get started. Next thing you know you've got a track bike but can't afford to go.

Been doin this track day thing for a while now, enough to see a lot of people come and go. Many of those who aren't there anymore aren't in it because they didn't really know the costs & got in over their head financially.

Your call... Just tryin to save you some cash & headaches.

I tried to shave 30 seconds off that time and ruined 2 mirrors. Guess I should have waited until my hands were warmer and avoided a cold drop.

Welcome to the forum, you'll find a lot of people on here are very friendly and willing to help out! It really is a "community" unlike a lot of other forums that just have trolls running rampant and bashing everyone's comments. A lot of the people on here ride together, race together, and hang out together. Don't be afraid to ask for help, and don't take peoples criticism too seriously but just know guys like Pete and Christian have an enormous amount of experience at the track. With that said Jason is right about a good track bike being an SV. Cheap to buy, cheap to fix, and the resale is always there, so if you are dead set on getting a track only bike that would hands down be my suggestion. Until you can turn a 1:17 on a stock SV at Loudon there is no reason to invest money in a bigger bike, just more the reason to invest in track days and racing schools.

    Re: Hey all

My buddy and I both started doing TDs "going easy" on our street bikes. Day 1 went well for him, day 2 ended in bike destruction. It is now a track bike. Days 1-3 went well for me, day 4 I had pavement for lunch and tire-wall for dinner.

I would not count on having the restraint to "take it easy" on a pretty street bike for much more than 1 TD. Once you get comfortable, you will want to push it.

I can understand taking your street bike out till you find out if you enjoy the track but once you do I see no problem picking up a less pretty ride for the track. I don't relish binning either of my current rides.
