Hello all, looks like a great site you have here. I'm glad something like this exists for us new englanders.
I don't yet own a motorcycle, so I'm browsing for a beginner friendly bike.
Looking forward to becoming part of the community.
Thanks,
Ed

Welcome, goodluck on the bike hunt.
Welcome. I'm sure you'll find some great advice o here for your first bike purchase... ignore it all and get a busa! (and flip-flops if you don't already have a pair).![]()
I prefer birkenstocks when I ride the busa
Actually saw a guy leaning over to fix his flip flop while coming the other way on a sport bike the other day. wow...
Is it too off topic to ask about gear here? I really cant picture myself in leather pants.. Or at least I prefer not to.... Are there any options other than the draggin-jeans things? I've heard the kevlar added in there doesn't help much..
Thanks for the welcome, all!
welcome man!!!
as far as gear goes, a nice pair of jean pants will work. hell even a speedo will work (just dont fall)
did you buy a helmet, jacket, and possibly gloves yet?
Hello Ed,
Welcome.
I like your name because it's easy to spell.
I hail from Warwick.
Good luck out there.
Keep on truckin'.

I have the helmet, jacket, and gloves. Also been wearing some cheap work boots for riding now. And, of course, I wear pants. But they are just regular jeans.
I've been borrowing Dad's NX650 and a friends vulcan 500 as much as possible lately.
Chris, I've been in Warwick a little over 2 years now. Seems like a pretty good place but the roads and traffic could be better..
I'm glad that 'ed' was available. Easier than thinking of something else.
hello and welcome fellow Warwick resident
Hey man, welcome. As for gear, don't skimp on the helmet, jacket or gloves. Boots are nice too; though to be honest I just wear decent shoes....more because I'm broke then because I don't want any lol. On the pants, a lot of the guys here wear riding pants that look just like plain old jean pants. They are just thicker and reinforced. I personally wear jeans.
Welcome. Do you live near Honda World at Oakland Beach? To bad they don't sell kawasaki but lots of suzuki's or go down to Razee's and look at their used bikes in the garage across the street.

I think they closed...
You'll get a lot of opinions on riding gear. Personally, I always wear a leather jacket (except for the hottest days where I have a well-vented textile jacket with good armor), gauntlet gloves, Sidi boots, and at the very least kevlar reinforced jeans. For long or 'spirited' rides, I zip my jacket into leather pants for a sweet two-piece suit. Yup, I look like a power ranger, but I prefer the look to skin grafts.
Edit: and it goes without saying... I always a helmet.

yea they are moving.... they opened up some where else. last i heard they didnt have any bikes yet, but that was a while ago.
and if you buy a black GSXR, be sure to buy either the cockroach or burger king outfit....
when you find a bike, let us know. we are all down for a ride.
Sounds great. Would love to take a ride with you guys and learn the good local roads. I haven't done much exploring around warwick in the car because the driving around here is nasty.
I'm planning to check out an '04 GS500F on wednesday. Should be a good start.
I guess you could say they "moved" They also changed their name too, seems like more of a sale then a move. They have a place down in the sketchier part of Oakland Beach
I have heard good things and test rode an SV650 there. They wanted well over KBB value, and the bike wasnt perfect. So I walked. Probably could make a deal if I went back. I'm leaning torwards the GS though. Looking at a nice faired one tomorrow and there's a naked one out in Hartford as well.
Maybe tomorrow if all works out well. I havent been to the Oakland Beach place since I got serious, but the looked like they mostly had new or near-new bikes there. I'm a new rider, and I dont want to pay for shiny if the bike aint gonna stay shiny. Cheap and shiny is ok.

Welcome from another Ed in Warwick, i should have tried just the name first. Warwick is a great place to learn to ride, nothing like cornering doing laps around the Apponaug loop, and how can you not love Hoxie four corners at rush hour. Good luck with the search.
Hi. Enjoy the forum. Knit your own riding gear on rainy days.
