The biggest difference in the Marines from the Army is that EVERY Marine is trained to be a rifleman first, where as most of the Army just THINKs they are a rifleman first. It is all about thinking, something Marines don't do alot of. :poke: :D

Seeing as how im an unbyassed person here allow me to throw my 2 cents in. I dont think one branch is any more important than the other. Dont they all have their specialties? I mean the navy provides Ships and big GUNS (I.E. Missles) which allows us to attack from further ditances thus saving american lives. they Carry jets with them which both the air force, marines and navy fly correct? The Airforce creates air superiority eliminating the oppoents chance to launch fighters and bombers. The army brings in the heavy artiliary tanks etc... and whipes out ground forces. The Marines basically go door to door taking out enemies on the ground. So to me its a pretty sick 4 pronged attack and with out one or the other I dont think our Military as a whole would be as dominant.
Am I wrong?

Personally if the Air Force and Navy make that ground an impact zone with bodies strewn about I am happy with that. It makes my life a WHOLE lot easier.

I don't doubt the Air Force and Navy are very good at what they do, I was a forward observer in the first gulf war, and I've seen first hand what each is capable of. I've called in fire missions using Naval battle ships and also worked closely with Air Force and Army Air control liaisons while in the gulf. However this discussion is mostly focused on A Marines/Soldiers training and how intense each one can be. Now, Air Force boot camp is just laughable. Then again, the Air Force doesn't need highly trained warriors to go out and kill using brute physical force. I also take offense to your comment about the role of Marines and Army soldiers. You are speaking "out the ass" as they say when making a statement like that. Make no mistake, it always has and always will be, the job of both to kill the enemy. We may be doing it smarter now and the way in which we are fighting the Iraq war may be a little different due to urban warfare and trying to win the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people. However, this is but one war in a long line of wars and, I'm sure, certainly won't be the last. We just tailor our war tactics and how we fight to each individual war. Doesn't mean we don't still kill! (only someone in the Air Force would make such a statement!.. ).

and no the Marines are not a department of the Navy. The Navy and the Marines are their own separate entities under the Department of the Navy. Don't confuse the Dept. of the Navy w/ the Navy itself, not the same (even though, granted, it seems like they are because of the name).
