That's with a LOT of moderation, mass-pruning, etc. I recently "retired" from being Admin, since the site sees 2000+ posts a day and since I sold my Eclipse, I didn't feel like trolling the car forums all day.
We get a lot of great knowledgable guys.. But as you can imagine, a metric fuckton of riceboys and morons as well. Look at the member list - almost 5 pages of new members since that movie came out, and they ALL post "where can i get nitrous bottlz 4 my car my APC wing is tite", blah blah blah...
I'd have given you a run... In the 1/8th mile anyways.
Alas...
I don't own a house, and my 1-year plan includes that.. So I had to dump the $380/mo car payment $240/mo insurance in lieu of my gimp 95 Maxima I'm driving now. Also the reason I'm bikeless.
I'm getting old. I actually prioritized something I can't immediately get above the essential toys.![]()

not trying to diss you or nothing but , please please please , take off the stickers and the altezzas , it'd look a lot better. . . lol.
Something tells me the current owner would not appreciate him doing that....Originally posted by Gangsta SV

Hey MS, that's a nice looking mustang...how long does it take you to change the plugs on that thing? That engine compartment looks tight...and by tight, I mean cramped...not, you know, ghetto cool..."ghetto cool"? WTF, all this rice stuff is getting to my brain....
Huh, I guess looks can be deceiving. Now that I think about it, the one ford (92 ranger) I ever owned was a hell of a lot easier to work on than any of the japanese cars I've worked on. Of course, it required twice as much work so I guess it's a wash....Originally posted by Mystery Squid
Thanks! Believe it or not, it's one of the easiest cars I've ever worked on! Spark plugs come out just fine, sure the last one in on the drivers side is a *small* pain, but a $3 universal joint adapter for your rachet takes care of that.... Furthermore, just this weekend I replaced the shocks and springs up front, you don't even need a spring compressor, and the brake pads/rotors can be changed within 15 minutes (let's just say the hardest part about changing the brake pads is takin the wheel off). The car was pretty much built to be worked on easily.
I must admit, Mustangs have always intrigued me. One of the few American cars to which I would attribute the sort of "elegance" normally reserved for fine italian sportscars. Not that I'd turn down a ferarri for a 5.0, just that the mustang seems to flow together, it fits well with nothing out of place. Those mid-90s stangs are especially appealing to the eye. Of course, the practical side of me says you live in new hampshire and should go get a blown four like the evo or the wrx and be happy...but the allure of the RWD elegant muscle car has always attracted me to the Mustang, just like it attracts me to the RX-8.
I saw your post on ODFU about your suspension upgrade, did it come out as you'd hoped?
Actually, all the stickers came off shortly after those pics were taken. I took second in Import Wars up at NEDragway, then de-riced.Originally posted by Gangsta SV

i dunno i am still partial to the rumble of a big v-twin

Have you driven a 99+ GT or Cobra? Who cares if the 5.0 is gone... stock the new ones are way faster... I had a 99 GT... I miss the engine, but don't really miss the rest of the car that much.Originally posted by Mystery Squid
You're oh so right on the intrigue factor.... Fact is, with Camaro production coming to an abrupt end, the Mustang is the last affordable American sports car. Sure, you have the 'Vette, but how many people have 40+ G's to throw around? Furthermore, there are no more 5.0's out there. They went out of production in '95...
In the end, there's nothing, and I mean nothing, like the nice rumble of a 5.0 as your driving down the highway. To date, it's the only car that I like to drive just for the sake of driving....
Sounds like the 5.0s are easier to mess around with though.

American cars are great to work on in that the premise is pretty simple.Originally posted by Mystery Squid
Yes, they are faster. Caveat: Then "new" engines have aluminum heads and iron blocks, versus the "old" 5.0's had iron heads and blocks. Many a 4.6 owner have blown their heads so to speak... Let's just say that the 5.0 can take more of a pounding than the current 4.6's... I mean, if you're a daily driver, then you might never have a problem, but I've heard many stories of woe of 4.6's blowing at the track, and even from people who just drive them pretty hard....
I specifically wanted the 5.0 for two reasons: 1. reliability, 2. Real easy to work on...
I'd feel much better modding the 5.0 than the 4.6 any day...
Take big, easy to reach parts off, put big, easy to reach parts back on. Working on my Mitsu motor was a giant pain in the ass, because everything that you would actually want to change/do/tune (plugs, throttle body, ecu, etc) was buried under a pile of other shit.
At the end of my import-tuning-guy career, I discovered one thing about cars. Sometimes working on them is really more fun than driving around with the end result. There's few things quite as cool as 7am, Sunday morning, parts on the lawn, toolbox open next to you, coffee, bagel, tunes, and just hanging out with a couple of friends spinning wrenches.
You do any car audio stuff to the 'stang? If you ever need help, I'm pretty handy. A friend of mine and I did this:
I've also, using nothing but dirty old wood laying around, a bunch of beers and $12 for a roll of carpet - turned my buddy's old hack install job from this:
(Yes, that's how he installed it... The "just sitting there" approach)
Into this:
The neon I had kicking around in my box-o-audio-crap. Everything else was done with random spare stuff laying around his garage.![]()

Big bird, man. Yours is the first Sesame St. generation, is it not? 40 hours a week staring at a 30 foot yellow sasquatch of a canary has gotta have some residual psychological impact.Originally posted by Mystery Squid
