    that is why I said it is better to get caught with expired plates, than plates registered to something else

    FWIW registration of a light trailer is $20 in MA or $22 in NH.

    I would tow it home with no pate. chances of getting stopped near zero, chances of a ticket once stopped are as close to zero as it gets.

    Put your rear plate on the trailer so everything matches. Get pulled over and state they're inseparable.
