Is a ridgeline a pickup?

  1. #1376

Re: Is a ridgeline a pickup?

yup, FWD/hybrid standard...2.0 EcoBoost w' FWD or AWD optional...honestly FWD is enough for socal OHV staging areas or even open desert/mountains.

But man...72" is tripping me out. They're marketing the ads for mountain bikes and 4x8" sheets of plywood and gardening. I'm guessing it's because most "dirt bike" customers want Rangers and F150/F250's, so they didn't bother. But there's a small slice of the pie of weirdos like me that want the smallest vehicle to fit a dirty...gonna go measure the YZ and 690 right now!

agreed, beats out a lot of the Hyundai for my needs

I might. Going to run some numbers and see if the Ford supplier discount we get through work applies. Fiesta is getting up there in miles and stuff is starting to die. Latest thing is the radio.

Friends just reserved one. Definitely checks a lot of boxes for their demographic. $36k, with a lot of options.

although it doesn't have the truck bed trunk/storage like the Santa Cruz and the Ridgeline, it does have a $115 option for a full size spare.

When I'm 2-4 hours into the middle of the scorching desert with no cell phone signal and full cab and dirt bike in the bed, I like the peace of mind of having one

Re: Is a ridgeline a pickup?

Welp. My wife is currently sitting at a dealership while they replace the injectors on our Odyssey minivan. Same DI 3.5L V6 as the ridgeline I believe. Van has 48k miles on it. Pop'ed a CEL yesterday rolling out of the kiddo's school pickup line. Ironically a couple days before we had an appointment for it to be inspected. CEL would be insta-fail for that. No point in keeping that appointment with the light on.

Sounds like this is going to be a warranty thing. Although I wonder if that would be true if it were not for the fact that we bought this thing CPO. I believe it had a 4/48k warranty new, but 10/100k because it was CPO.

Quick google says this experience isn't out of the ordinary. Several bulletins mentioning the code our van threw. Some stories of multi-$k repairs and expectations that it'll be a repeat thing in another ~50k. Rather disappointing given the Honda name and rep.

Re: Is a ridgeline a pickup?

time to convince the wife to get a Maverick?

so I went out and did some measuring with a full size bike to see if it would fit in the maverick bed w' the tailgate down. essentially we need the contact patch of the rear tire to be under 72"

the black hash mark is 72"

it JUST BARELY will fit into a maverick going straight back. Wowza.

now that's straight back...if you twist the bars so the front wheel goes into the corner, you get the bike in a little further

now the "contact patch" (basically directly below the axle) moves to the 67" mark

this gets even better when you put a bike in fully diagonal...or put the bars in straight and kick the rear end sideways...

still need to test it with the 690 (suspected 2-3" longer), but guessing it should be fine

I may even be able to put 2 bikes in, wheels in the corner, and frame/body of the bike straight back. I did that in smaller truck beds anyways so the bars to bump into each other.

screw the santa fe, screw the ridgeline, this may be the one.

my buddies just said all I need now is a test drive

0-60 in 8.6 seconds is slow, but my '01 F150 is around 8.7 seconds anyways...it's fine.

    EDIT:

I never liked the sliding rear window in my truck, always wished it was just solid glass. I believe the XLT comes standard with solid glass. I built an XLT with luxury package in white, not that I plan on buying one anytime soon

They come in handy when you need to crawl through them because you locked your keys in them in the middle of nowhere.

You can also get a power sliding rear glass

And I also do not generally buy new shiny things...the one time I did I hated it and dumped it in 4 months

But this is also starting cheaper than a corolla and Prius

Re: Is a ridgeline a pickup?

ya I've honestly thought about that...not expecting this to be a "forever" truck

buying on stats/functionality/price generally always comes at a compromise in some area...

Ford's manufacturing process isn't Kaisen(?) like Toyota

now for a 690/701, if you twist the bars into the front corner of the bed, with the bike at a slight angle:

the axle/tire's contact patch is at 67" mark with room to spare

    (the maverick is 72")

so two 690/701 dual sports should fit

this will work just fine for LA-B2V....the one time a year I need to carry two bikes

the last thing I'm trying to figure out are hitches; the bronco sport and escape are being advertised w' a class 2 hitch receiver...but on e-trailer you can get a class 3 on the non-hybrid escape. guessing the maverick's hybrid will be a class 2 and the ecoboost will be a class 3

The interior of the Santa Cruz looks rad. I wonder how low they can get the price to the Maverick?

Fuel economy dictates my lack of interest in the Santa Cruz. I only see gas prices going up.

After talking to a locksmith we’ve solved this problem.

We got a spare ignition key for our Outbacks. It’s chipped so we put it in a special wrapper and hid it.

Then we had a “dumb” key made, and hide thst so it is accessible from the outside. Even if someone finds that, they can open the doors but not take the car.

Going to do the same with the Sprinter next, as it’s a chipped key but far fewer locksmiths have the blanks for those.
