Part of the aftermath of the latest tropical storm (Agatha) that hit Guatemala over the weekend:





Crazy shit. Supposedly swallowed a 3-story building.

Apparently Guatemala City isn't a stranger to sinkholes, this one happened last year:

That's gotta be bullshit. How the hell does a perfectly tunneled hole open up? A sink hole fair enough - but that is not a sink hole - that thing is perfectly symmetrical with smooth walls all the way to the surface.

Seems like a fake to me, but I can't find anything online about it being anything but real.

I lived in an apartment right in front of this sinkhole that opened up in the UK. Chalk mines we only 15' below the surface.

It looks to me like there must have been a cavern underneath...with a large domed roof. They ust have built the buildings on top, but not drive the foundation deep enough to puncture the dome. Then the flooding weakend it enough to collapse....

Just that it looks like the bottom of the hole opens into an underground cave without a trace of the structure that was swallowed.

The shape and depth reminds me of those cenotes all over Mexico.

That scares the hell out of me.... I would have reoccurring nightmares as a kid that there was a big sinkhole in our yard. I would be nosy, look in, and fall...annnnnd then id wake up... lol
