What is this steel beam for? 23'8"x8"x4"

During a recent estimate I did, there was a request to remove a large steel beam from the property. I became very curious as to what such a large piece of steel would be used for so a grabbed these pics.

Guesses are more than welcome. I thought it may have been rigging from a crane for something like ocean containers.

My father used a steel I-beam as a deck header. They're nice because you don't need to support them in the center. Also, jet fuel can't melt them.

Those lugs in the middle pic are interesting, certainly not structural connections. Could have been some odd spreader beam, but I would expect some lifting lugs on the top flange...also it looks pretty light for rigging or a spreader, how deep is it? Flange is skinny so guessing W10 or maybe a W12.

Good news is that steel scrap is up in value!

Is it a W shape, or is it just a hollow rectangular tube?

There are a couple holes drilled, what looks like an equal spacing from the lugs.

My assumption is that whatever fastened to it used both the lugs and the 2 drilled holes to "hold" it in place.

What's the history of the property? How long do you suppose it's been there?

Good call, I hear beam and think WF. Cant really tell from the pics, but could very well be an HSS (tube).

The beam appears to be a hollow rectangle.

History of the property is generally unknown other than the previous owner was in masonry and pretty much dug up the entire yard for stones.
