So this morning my uncle rolled my truck....how does this work in regards to ins etc....I have already filed a claim with my ins. company....is there anything else i should know? What can i expect from teh ins. people and what crap will they try to pull with me? any advice would help...thanks...
Your uncle should file a claim with HIS insurance company. Your insurance company will claim from your uncle's policy as far as I know.
That's not how it worked when I totaled my ex's bike. I filed with my insurance. They said it had nothing to do with them. They didn't insure her bike, her insurance policy is for her bike. Her insurance covered it, and she got the premium increase too. It's ok though, she was a bag of dueche.Originally posted by Degsy

It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
Your liability insurance covers you for driving any vehicle usually. therefore, if your uncle was insured for minimum liability, claim on HIS policy. That way you won't get the surcharges.
Yeah, you can claim on yours, but why should you?
His insurance company will say 'the policy follows the vehicle' and that is true. However, if you argue the point that you were not driving, you should be able to get away with not having the surcharges on your policy.
Like I said, I tried that and it's no dice. Unless laws have changed in the past couple years. I called and called both companies and they told me it doesn't work that way.
That's why i don't let people use my stuff.

Same thing here. I let someone ride my bike and they crashed. My insurance covered the loss of the bike. However, his insurance covered medical expenses.
Sorry to hear about your truck, Red. Good luck with the claim!

This is what my insurance company told me after we totaled a rental. My insurance covers what I'm driving up to the amount My vehicle was insured for. Unfortunately I only had liability and that does not cover anything for what I'm driving only what I run into.
Fortunately I was on company bussines so our company insurance paid the $20,000 bill.
I wasn't driving at the time , but the other listed driver was. It still took months to get it worked out .I just got another bill for the truck too and the accident was in 2003. It came from a collection agency even though the bill was settled.
You suck at life. Why don't you quit?
My dad told me I could be anything I wanted when I grew up. So I became an Asshole.
I let a friend ride my bike a few years back and he wrecked it. I called my insurance and filed the claim with them. They told me I would not have a surcharge because he had full coverage. He notified his insurance company he had the accident and they picked up the bill for the check my insurance company cut to me.
I also know that you can choose to have insurance coverage for other peoples vehicles. My policy has it.
Yep, just make sure you have his companies name. They will take care of it for you.Originally posted by bigred875
right..thats what i am thinking...i file the claim then my ins pays me...then goes after his ins. company..
Bottom line
don't let people use your stuff

is there such thing as borrow? they make you add all your family members or whoever you want to drive it. is that not correct? by doing this the premium is based on the person with higher steps. clever.Originally posted by skiierx

"fuckit!"
Big Red,
If you have collision coverage, go through your own policy, your uncle owes you your deductible. You will not be surcharged for this, but your Uncle will be. You would go through your Uncles policy only if you had no collision coverage and he DID on his own car.
Your RI policy will cover anyone that uses your vehicle with your permission.
thanks ed, so now what about the money game? I looked at the truck last night and the damage isn't as bad as I thought it would be...looks like it was side-swipped all the way down the side of the car... They should be looking at it in 2-3 business days..is that normal? seems long to meHow can I make sure they do not screw me? I was planning on it being totalled so I have printed out what the 3 websites say for a value then printed out a bunch of 97 rangers with the same options etc so I know what the replacement cost is...anything else i shoudl know?
Make sure you let them know about any improvements you did to the truck, new engine/tranny etc, piddly azz things like brakes and mufflers do not increase the value. I would go on NADA.com and Kelly Blue Book and get their quotes for Retail values as well. Go on autotrader and find like trucks in your area as a refference. If you disagree with their value, you can request arbitration, where an impartial person will rule on the value of the truck. I can send you a copy of the RI Auto Policy if you need it, but it is too large of a file to email through this board.Originally posted by bigred875

Kham, go back where you came from, I had my stepdad on my policy and he had a higher surcharge on his own insurance but it did not affect me. When I took him off my insurance stayed the same.Originally posted by Kham
