    Transfer To PBX Phone System

I know it's a rather generic question. But does anyone here do that? We're gonna be switching our old phone system (among other things) to a Comcast bundle. Wunna the things they don't do is switch the system over. We're currently running an old Merlin system...

I don't care to be schooled on how to do it, nor do I really care how archaic our Merlin system is (it's fookin' bulletproof). Just lookin' to spread it locally here in hopes that wunna you do this sorta thing before we start making phone calls...

The bundle from the cable company is going to bring CO lines two to an RJ-14 times however many CO lines (trunks) you guys have. Move the plugs to the new boxes, re-crimp as necessary, check the hunting arrangements (and don't forget the fax line, that's gotta be moved from the old IDF to the Comcast RJ). If you guys have VoiceMail on the Merlin you want to make sure you have disconnect supervision enabled from Comcast. They need to see the disconnect signal and drop the line making it idle. That way, when an inbound caller leaves a message and hangs up, the line drops immediately on hangup instead of having to depend on the seconds-of-silence timeout in your voicemail. And even THAT can leave the trunk off-hook even if the voicemail port drops and becomes idle. Disconnect supervision was a real problem down in the D.C. area, hopefully up here they can handle it. Your Merlin likely runs on loop-start CO lines, make sure Comcast is aware of THAT too. Good luck with the cutover!

I agree with the "Merlin is bulletproof".

I am curious, what brand of pbx are you switching to?

I don't have a fookin' clue. I'm pretty sure I'm going with a Comcast bundle. Not sure if that's the answer you're looking for...

Again, I'm not looking for schooling. And KB's got it covered if I decide to go that route...

I understand, I wasn't trying to "school" you.
I was just curious what Comcast bundled with their package.

I assume they made a deal with some other company and rebranded all the equipment.

Re: Transfer To PBX Phone System

I assume you're simply buying Comcast business lines? If so, all you'd be doing is cross-connecting the new extensions to those line drops wherever they are terminated, and ditching the old PBX.
