Re: You got the wrong guy

Do cops even have the RIGHT to use force/pull someone off their bike/vehicle like this, if the operator of said vehicle did pull over in a timely manner and didn't do anything to obstruct justice?? Even if said rider/driver did go at an excessive speed, does it grant any cop to use force if the operator obey and pull over right away? This is nuts. Power trip?

Re: You got the wrong guy

I usually pull for the Leos. Figure, the have a tough job and are exposed, as a day to day matter of course, to a far higher percentage of scumbags than I run into in a year. (...at least before I joined NESR...!!!)

But that seemed a bit over the top. Poor guy was trying to get off his bike...had to wait til his girlfriend dismounted...and the cop pulled him off the wrong side and dumped his bike in the bargain.

...lost in the story is the apparant fact that some other scumbags WERE going over 130...

(...no, I'm not holier than thou...I could have been that scumbag on the right day. doesnt make it right...)

Excessive force and the trooper should be paying for the repairs to the motorcycle and and any medical bills from injuries. I'm usually on the side of the LEO, but the way he removed him from the bike was damn near felony stop material (less guns drawn). The guy didn't even have a chance to get off the bike.

I don't know, but from what I've seen on that vid, looks like unprovoked assault to me.

Re: You got the wrong guy

Thats the problem.. are you going to believe the lying cop that 130mph was a true speed or did somone say .. it looked like they where going 130..and now they are just making it look like they where saving the world by pulling over the first bike they saw... Now what if that person didn't have those two stand up citizens .. or have enough money to hire a reputable lawyer...he would have been dryfucked intheass.. lost his license..possible income....ins. gone through the roof...Thes copsare suppossed to be looked up to, and have a higher standards , be cornerstones of the community , and have that thing called integrety,honesty,truthfulness..instead they are taught to lie and conspire. just so they won't be proven wrong....

I think that he should have atleast manned up and apoligized ..

Whats gonna happen when he usses that poor judgment with a firearm..??
    Wonder Why people run..
    ...........WTF...is our police comming to.

that is pretty frustrating to watch, im impressed that the guy managed to keep his cool as the officer dragged him off his bike knocking it over in the process. I cant help but think that if i was in the same situation I'd probably get maced and be sitting in jail right now

I believe the video tells the story. The officer needs to pay damages on the bike.... final. His actions were excessive, with no provocation, a closed case from any perspective. He fucked up.

As in anything, there are good, bad and mistakes all the time. Don't stereo type but judge appropriately when an incident happens.

There are good cops ... I know a couple with good judgment in my area..they are out numbered 10 to 1..sorry I have such a negative attitude..but,,you don't see the words "Protect and Serve" anymore...it's a revenue machine.. and they have to meet the quota..then the "little man syndrone" or " Tuff Guy" attitude kicks in with adreniline..=..out of control

Re: You got the wrong guy

so far as I know, it also is not required that a rider leave his/her motorcycle int he event of a stop. It is a courtesy, but not mandatory,a s that would be the same as asking every auto driver to get out of the auto upon stop... I could be totally wrong, but the one time I was pulled over (wrongly, for which the officer did apologize), I was a noob and didn't get off the bike, as I was on a downhill and not comfortable that the bike wouldn't roll away.

the point is, if he was asked to get off the bike (which i think he was), he had to wait for his passenger. they aren't the same as cars, and he had to wait in order to be a safe and respectful rider. sue the cop for damages to the bike and demand a written apology from the officer, if not for the mistaken identity (it happens....sucks, but happens), then for the brutal nature in which he and his property were put in danger.

also, fwiw, though i know there are "bad cops" out there who are on a power trip and trying to meet quotas, most that i know or have met have been truly upstanding people with the safety of others a priority in their minds.

Re: You got the wrong guy

I have asked a couple LEOs proper procedure when getting pulled over on the bike. They basically said to do what would make the LEO feel the least threatened...Stay on the bike, remove helmet, and if you have to get paperwork out tell him that's what you are doing. The less on edge the LEO is the more on your side they will be...generally. In this case the LEO let his adrenaline get the best of him. Damages should def be paid here.

Ive heard that you should leave the helmet on until told otherwise, in the account the helmet can be used as a weapon. I personally take it off and hang it on a mirror or somewhere where I cant just grab it and give the cop a whack to the grill.

I am still not sure in New England

In NY state if the LEO loses sight of you without a proper license plate ID the initial pursuit would be thrown out for this exact reason.

Never mind, I forgot, that was before when citizens had rights and LEO's had discretion.

Ditto. I have been told the same. Stay on the bike, kickstand down, bike off, helmet off, gloves off, hands where the officer can see them.

Has gotten me out of more tickets than I have recieved.

That cop was out of line, BUT I could see how he might think the rider was ignoring him, he was trying to get him to come off the bike on the wrong side. I would have hesitated as well.

Re: You got the wrong guy

I saw something very similar to this happen on 128, although the LEO never lost sight of the bike, the bike DID pull over when he saw the lights... and the cop dragged him off his bike (knocking it over in the process) and they proceeded to exchange fisticuffs... NOT good for the biker. In either case, it is really discouraging to see these things happen.

Re: You got the wrong guy

I like cops but they dont like black automobiles, I guess never get a blacked out bike and helmet. I was profiled in CT and NY this weekend aha

I go to pick up my girlfriend at her friends in a really nice neighborhood in westchester NY and I got there 5 minutes before them so parked at her house and 2 cop cars came 'inquring about a black truck on the street'
Then in CT I had cops staring me down and passenger taps his glass with the nightstick and the driver turns on his flashlight at me...I gave them a WTF look and took off when the light turned green and they turned another way, then 3 more cops came by me over the next few blocks to the highway.

I hope that 5 day suspension stuck for that guy.
