my son, has a Vermont Castings, he's had it for 20 years, hasn't had to replace any parts yet, we even cooked a 20lb thanksgiving turkey on it one year, it grills, bakes, has a side burner....but wasn't cheap

My grill has a side burner that I just kind of wrote off as something I'd never use. Turns out my big steel wok fits perfectly and the burner gets pretty damn hot. I haven't been using the wok much as it likes to run really hot and ends up smoking up the house. I'm now cooking wok stuffs on the deck, letting it smoke. The first results were fantastic, so add that to the list, I guess.

It's about 45 minutes to light the charcoal chimney and let it burn in, then add it to the grill and give it enough time to stabilize temperature. This is why I also have a gas grill.

15 years on mine. And finally time for a new one. Around 12 years I replaced burner then the regulator. Now frame is starting to rot. Not thrilled to spend the money on a new one and not sure how the new hold up but can say definitely got our money out of this one. Itís been outside all year every year. Mostly uncovered. Parents got great life out of theirs also.

The grill we have is rotting away and the flame units have separated so the flame comes out in batches instead of a nice spread.

Now you guys got me looking up Webers.

Damn just missed out on a Genesis E330 with side burner for $150 on FB marketplace too..

Bacon in the oven with parchment paper is a game changer. Only time a skillet gets used for bacon now is if it's over a camp fire.

Yup. Despite my concerns over the wok I will happily fill the house with bacon smoke.

Great resource if you're not sure on the product choice

    https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/r...est-gas-grill/

Same product brand rarely gets the top pick and the upgrade pick, this time Weber is so good it won both.

They go into quite extreme detail why they chose what they chose and what were the competitors and why they werent chosen.

That's the beauty of doing it outside. I mean, I love bacon as much as the next guy, but I don't want the whole house smelling of it for a week (maybe I don't love it as much as the next guy?!).

Since we're a little off topic, a few weeks back my wife went to the butcher for a bone-in ribeye, but he didn't have any. Instead she came back with one rib of prime rib (about 2.5"). Treated it like we would a full piece, rubbing it with a mixture of beef bullion, pepper and rosemary every time I flipped it. OMG, it was the best meal we've had in a long time.

I don’t want to make a new thread so I’ll try here. What do you guys use for a home deep fryer and what oil?
We have a farberware and it cooked ok. We tried canola oil and it was foaming like crazy and not great taste.

have the usual fry kit - big bucket (like you'd boil lobster in) over a propane fire, with peanut oil.
