Driveway perimeter drain

Should be straightforward. Right?

Got plenty of 4" perf tube, the sock that goes over it, 6 tons of 3/4" stone being delivered.

Going to be at the edge of pavement. Thinking 3" of stone, then pipe, then another 3-5" of stone.

Obviously keep it pitched right.... anything else I'm missing?

Getting the driveway paved Wednesday. Have a 4' or so curved earthen/fieldstone retaining wall. Want to keep the water from going down the wall and wrecking the pavement. Pavement will go right up to the rock wall if I don't put the drain in. If I do the drain, there will be a 6"-1' gap from rock to pavement where I will have the drain/3/4" stone.

If I'm visualizing right, by doing it the way yer proposing, it will make things worse, it will allow water to seep into the ground and get under the pavement

you should have a paved swale at the edge of your rock wall OR put under drains in that will collect any water that gets under the pavement and daylights it at a low point where it can drain away

Randy, uploading pictures of the area of concern now, once I post them maybe you can give me your thoughts on best path forward.

Paving company wants to pave right up to my rock wall, into all the cracks. Problem is, it's just stones laid on grade, then backfilled around. They aren't deep and some are above where the driveway will end up being.

Rest of the path around the far edge of the driveway. Was going to trench out along the edge, put 3/4" stone, 4" perf pipe in sock, more stone.

That's the point, drains any water that gets under.

the drain has to be under the pavement to get water that is underneath the pavement

a drain adjacent/beside the pavement will catch surface water and release it into the ground to flow underneath the pavement

unless you prep the base (under where the pavement is going) with underdrains, best bet is to rely on surface drainage

what is you sub base & base material, how much processed gravel directly under the proposed pavement

Paving company is doing all the base, I was just hoping to prevent any water issues. Think I'll just let them handle it at this point. They are going to strip everything back, lay suitable base material and grade for drainage.

Eh, they didn't put in a good base. Had multiple spots where weeds pushed through the paving.

Recycled didn't harden as much as I hoped.

I bought 100 yards of recycled asphalt for my driveway in September and it never hardened either. Next time, go with reground asphalt, as it doesn’t have gravel mixed in like the recycled stuff does.
