You should aim for the SP2 (2002+). Its the better of the two models and more parts are available.

Re: 2001 RC51 nicely set up for $4500 or b/0
Do you think a properly moded SP1 still doesn't compare to a SP2? I was looking to keep the price down too, but I'm admitedly just mildly educated... on the subject.

Most of the SP2s are just as heavily modded up. Mine is a good example. Ya it will cost you a little more but I think you can still find a good deal.

Re: 2001 RC51 nicely set up for $4500 or b/0
Thanks for the info guys, and just so I'm hearing you guys correctly, you'd suggest $7,000 for a SP2 over $4,200 for a SP1?
Seems like a big difference, but like I said, I'm stupid.

Well I dont know. The SP2 is a bit better setup then Mikes bike. I dont know if its worth 7k but I also havent seen the bike so I really dont have an educated opinion on it. I do know mine is setup better then both of them but its also not for sale. You could probably find a better deal if you went hunting around or you could try and work something out with Jamie. I guess it depends on how motivated he is to sell.

I hear what you're saying, the search goes on...

Re: 2001 RC51 nicely set up for $4500 or b/0
Chat with SkiierX, never hurts to talk. Maybe you guys can make a deal, I know he takes care of the bike and a few aftermarket goodies add up quick.

Re: 2001 RC51 nicely set up for $4500 or b/0
ya talk to skiierx and mycirus, both guys are super nice and were really helpful when i was looking for my rc. I have an 03 sp2 with 9k on the clock and picked it up for 4800. had it all apart this weekend and everythings clean on it. just keep your eyes peeled. also cruise speedzilla.com/forums too.

Re: 2001 RC51 nicely set up for $4500 or b/0
The price is lower than 7k these days. Not only am I open to selling for a little less I could also remove some of the items that I was including in that price.

Re: 2001 RC51 nicely set up for $4500 or b/0
pfft.... you didnt want half squids RC anyway...i heard its slow...slower than an SV650 down the dragstrip........twice:D

Catch2otwo, that's the deal I'm looking for! I guess its out there.
Skiierx, I'm sent you a pm.
svracer01, this friend of mine had a SV650 and LOVED it, but this friend was a she, and I just can't get over the thought that its a girls bike! I know its not, but perception is everything, right?

 Perception is nothing when it's wrong.

Yep, reality is a f'd up thing. Just know I'm not tryin to push my perceptions on anyone, just being honest with myself.

regardless of whether or not an sv is a girls bike or whatever, buy what you really want. dont settle for something else or you wont ever be happy with it no matter how great it performs

true that. I just think it's a shame that people have certain preconceptions about a particular kind of bike. SV650 a girls bike? Whatever.... It's that kind of thinking that leads so many newbies into getting literbikes as their first bike.

Doubt it. Parts don't make a good bike. Mike's (used to be mine) RC51 screams around Loudon and VIR like a 600. Well, maybe not like a 600, but as good as an overweight v-twin can.
:naughty

I bet you could get mine around faster then Mikes, your old one. The bike itself is setup better then Mikes was but youre right. Parts dont make the bike and you are a better rider then me. Offer still stands to let you take it out for a session:) Maybe on the first track day we can get the r6 and the rc out at the same time.

Degs has taken out plenty of setup RC's and I doubt yours would be any better than a few that he has ridden! You might have a little nicer suspension then the rest of us (Ohlins compared to Penske/GMD revalve) but that is it.

Oreo,
I didn't express myself correctly, the problem with texting, email, forums, etc... communication is far more than just words. I know a SV is NOT a girls bike, that bike rocks and I know it, in no way would I diss the SV. I just yearn for something else, I have previous experiences that dictate such, and that's all it is. Smaller v-twins and in- line-4 liter bikes are where I've been, and so the RC excites me now. Hell, the truth is all I want is any freaking bike right now, its been 4 years since I sold my baby after the arrival of my first real baby.
Peace my man.
Matt
