    2005 Ducati Multistrada 1000 S

    *SOLD*

    Per my usual practice, I'm posting here first. Priced per NADA "average retail." My text for the Marketplace ad:

    ==========================================

    2005 Ducati Multistrada 1000 S

    $3700.

    This Multistrada is an air-cooled 1000cc twin, fuel injected, with 6-speed transmission, that delivers broad power for all kinds of riding, around town, back roads, to fast highway touring. Adult-owned, second owner, I bought it from Seacoast Sport Cycle (Derry NH) November 2016 with 9K miles on it. Now has 23K miles. This is the top-of-the line "S" model with fully adjustable Ohlins suspension front and rear, and that unmistakable Pierre Terblanche design. Lots of storage space with the OEM Ducati hard cases (cases hold full coverage helmets and then some), Ducati luggage rack, tank cover and tank bag, and there's a storage pod in the right side fairing. You can also remove the hard bags and their mounting racks for more of a sport bike appearance and experience. LED headlight and taillight upgrades. Custom seat work was done by the first owner, with improved padding and seat cover. Tires are good (Dunlop RoadSmart III), good Yuasa battery, DID "Gold" chain, and sprockets are good to go. Other updates since I've owned it include: Yoyodyne clutch cylinder, rear brake cylinder, rear brake pads, fork seals, and full service and dyno tune two years ago by Eric Colbath (Clubhouse Motorsports, Moultonborough NH). Recent oil & filter change. Starts and runs great, the bike has excellent handling and Brembo brakes. You can find all the tech info you need and helpful community at ducati.ms and multistrada.net. A pleasure to ride, never crashed or tipped over, the bike has always started and has never let me down or stranded me. Original tool kit, second key, and owner's handbook included. Receipts available. Title in hand. (Arlington MA)

    =================================================

    Anticipating your FAQ ...

    Why are you selling?
    -- Looking to get a small dual sport bike.

    Tank swelling?
    -- Not a problem as reported by Eric.

    Do you have the Red Key?
    -- Yes.

    Does everything work as it should?
    -- Yes. With one minor exception, don't rely on the fuel gauge, which is typical.

    How loud is the clutch?
    -- Not loud. Won't wake the neighbors.

    ======================================================================

    Will post new pics soon ...

    Damn...this might have my name on it. I passed on a red ‘05 S 6-7 years ago, also my company is opening a new site in CT I’ll have regular travel to starting this summer....100 miles 1 way. Can’t think of a better way to get there than this.

    What’s service/reliability like on these? I always wanted to get one and take the fairing off, but in my old age I’m starting to come around on the looks. Especially in black.

    There goes the deposit money for the 790/890 Duke I’ve been planning on buying this year.

    Honestly, the Duke isn’t the right bike for right now. We have baby #2 due in a couple of months, I’m not going to have time to do track days and go hooning. The best bike is the one you can ride, and as of right now this is the one I’ll really be able to get some seat time on. Just need to get fitted for my Aerostitch!

    Hope you like it as well as I have the past 4+ years, Duncan. I'll give you a complete run-down. Also, everything you need to know is on multistrada.net, the Aircooled sub-forum, I think that's where I found the FSM and answers to any questions.

    Now I need to decide which small-ish dual sport to get ... might just be a Himalayan.

    KTM 390 ADV? If I were shopping that market I’d probably land there.

    Looking forward to having a street bike back in the stable, glad I logged in this morning because it clearly wasn’t going to last long!

    The KTM 390 is very nice -- would be my choice if I wanted to go liquid cooled. Thinking the RE for simplicity -- think Itchy Boots's travels.

    Very nice. Love it when something comes together like this. This multi is one of the handful of Ducs I would own. Despite the looks.

    Ain't that the truth. Big bags are where it is at for "honey, can you go get us some.." rides.
    May I recommend sticking to the 2-piece 'stich for those quick local rides.

    Already shopping a Givi top case to add. Kind of town between Aerostitch and Klim, the latter being a bit less of a birth control suit.

    No real direct experience. And I'm realizing this is unsolicited. But my experience with the Kilm stuff is it is more one-and-done textile gear. If okay with that I'd be shopping some of the lesser priced stuff. I hear great things about some of the house brands (import stuff) from Rocky Mountain and the like.

    Aren't you married with children? Do you actually GAF what you look like anymore? Embrace the dad jeans of motorcycle gear!

    From the sounds of it these side cases may do the duty for you. Maybe keep the credit card sheathed until you confirm?

    For sure, the side cases hold a LOT. Scroll up to my pic above, you can see the expandable tail bag that I swap from one bike to another.

    For heavy duty all-weather textile gear, I wear Olympia Motosports.

    So when I travel for work I take a week’s worth of clothes, toiletries, etc. Thought being the Givi acts as a suitcase I click on and off at the hotel leaving the saddlebags for a small set of tools and a laptop bag. Also, the Givi could potentially be a back rest for the wife?

    Credit card is remaining in the wallet for now....but I’m going to have to get a full set of road gear; textile 2-piece, boots, gloves, helmet.

    Re: 2005 Ducati Multistrada 1000 S

    I thought you were talking day commuting.

    For day commuting having cases that take your laptop / messenger / whatever work bag in a drop in manner is where it is at. With the teacups I installed on the V-Strom back when I had to dismantle my kit; splitting stuff between the bags. That took time and I quickly stopped taking the bike. Don't do that.
    With the Hardley I just drop and go. It's nice.

    I have a thing against top-boxes. Not a fan as a whole. Probably clouding my advice here.

    Backrests are a thing. My wife wants one too. I haven't even addressed that yet as she won't ride at all until the kids are older.

    I highly recommend the Gerbings heated textile suit. It is the bees knees and will change your life. If you’re feeling fancy, try Klim.

    that multi looks good in black! Or maybe I just see Ohlins and side cases and get excited...

    Come do a tour in Californee and when you hit traffic, you'll be damn glad you have a topcase. Oh, and my lady likes the backrest on my topcase too. It sure is ugly though.

    I like, but fuck it's all black. Not ideal for summer riding...maybe I'll pickup a set this fall and see if I can extend my season to Thanksgiving.

    The top case or...?
    It’s a solid 3-season setup. Liners come out and mesh panels open. Have worn this thing between 20-85F or so with good results.

    Thanks, Duncan, great dealing with you as well. Hope you enjoy the Multi as much as I did. For sure the most stable bike I've ever ridden.
