Not mine but a free bump for a friend. Anyone who frequents the Honeydew in Wakefield, MotoMarket in Acton, or a host of other motorcycle hangouts might have met Mr. John Murray. An incredibly interesting 78 year old man who rides his FZ-6 all over the country. Well now, it appears the legend is for sale and for a hair less than $2,000

"As the photos reveal this bike has taken its rider on two cross countries and because of recent upgrades is ready to go again. It is a perfect choice for any one who wants a comfortable upright-riding-position sport bike that has versatility, a unique history, and which can keep a speedy pace with any more costly sport bikes - all for a fraction of the cost of alternatives. Though it has a few scratches and plenty of well-tested miles (with never a break-down) its new owner will sit on a champion well-recognized in many riding circles. Recent upgrades within the past 500 miles costing close to $1,000 include new Michelin Road Pilot 2 Tires (F & R), new brake pads (F & R), new chain and sprockets (F & R), new spark plugs, new air filter, and an oil change and filter - all OEM parts. It doesn't need a thing and because it comes with a full gas tank, matching tank bag and soft saddle bags, service manual, two original keys and all maintenance records all one needs to ride it away is a helmet and a license (and seller will throw in a used helmet if needed.) Its 77,968 highway miles, all put on by its 78 year-old original owner/seller, enables it to purr like the '07 bike it is and yields it ready for another cross country - if you are. Frank Grosso, service rep of Cycles 128 in Beverly, will attest to its meticulous maintenance since new. This careful servicing has contributed to its outstanding performance, versatility, and never-ending durability. The Yamaha FZ6 remains the choice of champions and one could be yours for a song."
Lot of history with this one and it looks like the price is right. Click listing for pics
I can attest to 2 things...
1. He has the same name as me.
2. He maintained that bike better than most Ive seen.
3. He writes stuff that confuses me.
So question... is this totally legit? And how will a bike with that many miles survive? I have a friend looking for his first bike, and he's been looking at a few sv650's in this range, but all are carbed.. if this is an 07 fi but with a buttload of miles, maybe he will consider this...
This guy was a blast to talk to at the HoneyDew. He knows his shit and is a great guy. I wouldn't have a problem attesting to this being totally legit rice.
Awesome, I just sent him a text message and saw the post on CL... maybe he'll biteHe wants something like the SV or fz6 for around $2-$3K and there's not many on cl to pick from.
Haha, no I sent the text to my buddy... but... I can say my 70+yo uncle in-law does....Who would think a 78 yo would ride a motorcycle across the country for 80K miles?

If the FZ6 motor is anything like the FZ1, I have no doubts it will last well past 100k. There are numerous FZ1 owners with more than 100k on their bikes
Well, my friend called, someone is supposed to come from CT to get it, but if that guy doesn't by 5pm tomorrow night, he'll go pick it up![]()
cool. It would be a neat bike to own. The guy is sort of a north shore legend/myth
I have 30K miles on my 07 and it has not needed anythign but oil changes, front brakes, and tires so far, still runs like the day i took it from the dealer, awesome bike, and very reliable.
