So one fine day about 6 years ago, I decided to build a giant fucking subwoofer. At the time, this seemed like an awesome idea. I mean, who wouldn't want two 15" subs mounted isobarically in a 28"x28"x28" ported MDF enclosure?
As it turns out, pretty much everybody. Girlfriends, neighbors, even I tired of this monstrosity. Never mind that as built it has a 3db point of, like, 19Hz or something silly like that (it's been a while, I don't know the exact but just consider the size of this thing, it's something like 300 cubic liters and mounted isobarically to maximize the frequency response.
Anyway, first person who wants to come to derry and haul it out of my condo can have it. It's not powered, you'll need a stereo amplifier to power it as it's got four banana jacks mounted to a plate on the side of the sub. It's isobaric so you wire the channels 90 degrees out of phase with each other, which simply means that you connect one of the channels backwards (black -> red, red -> black) so the woofers do a push-pull thing which increases the amount of air that they can push thereby lowering the 3db point.
Or, you could just shoot at it with a shotgun. I don't fucking care. Get this thing out of my house.

what part of Derry I'll be in Derry tonight after work. Will it fit in the back of a jeep wrangler

Sounds like a beastly motherfucker
Q: With those dimensions, you're going to have a pretty nasty principal resonance mode around 245 Hz... did you notice this?

I didn't, but I had it crossed over at 60 or 80 Hz.
It's got an a port which can be adjusted from I think like 3 - 6 inches, I never got around to tuning it. It sounded very impressive as it was, but being in a condo I never did get to play with it very much. I don't know why I built the thing, I guess just to see if I could. If you live in a remote area or want to piss off your neighbors, this thing is for you.
for the fraternity house, this seems like a wonderful idea. is it still around? give me a call if it is and ill come grab it one night this week.

Just some dumbass
Ahh I gotcha. The crossover should get rid of most of that... I imagine subharmonics wouldn't resonate too loudly in that frequency range especially since it sounds like you built the box quite soundly (excuse the pun)

I haven't had much experience with ported boxes... they tend to have a little more ring to them, no? That's nice. I built for someone a sealed box with 2 12"s... the sealing really helps to damp the bass for snappy beats, but it all depends on the type of music, that unit was for techno and rap... yuck. I wouldn't build that type for myself.

I've got a par of duel 15" isobaric sub's in my living room, -3db point is 18hz and they are sealed. I think I killed my goldfish with them a few years ago........

so hard to stay on topic:
Built three subs 2- 10" sealed using fiberglass isulation and 1 - 12" ported ... was going to build a 15" but gave it to my bro he shook his landlord into kicking him out of the apartment f'ing dumbass
anyway the 12" didn't sound any diff than the 10" sealed I had a band pass in for 80 and a fully tuneable deck meh kept the 10's

OMG!!!! I built one probably just like it only mine housed a sub amp that did the stereo to mono conversion automatically. Parts Express?
Freaking thing sounded awesome but what an eye sore. I used 1" plywood so I could stain and varnish the outside thinking it would look like furniture. I quickly learned a 4' tall box on legs wasn't furniture and a plant stand that you couldn't possibly place anything on just wasn't gonna fly in the family room.
I put that thing outside for many a Halloween and the kids loved the rumbling bass from the scary music I used to play. My neighbor tried to copy me with those silly little outdoor speakers that looked like rocks but give me a break, 15" push/pull subs are a force few can compete against.
Since then I've downsized to a single 12" sub woofer ceiling mounted in the crawl space above my family room. It still thumps, but not like that isobaric monster you mention. Damn I miss that thing ....
Thanks for the memories Honci!
