FOR SALE: Shasta McNasty
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From the archives:::::::::
Yip, it's true. The legendary Shasta McNasty/NESR RV-RR is up for grabs...
Here's the skinny:
It's a 1973 Shasta class C motorhome. It's got less than 60,000 miles on it. We've had it for a few years now, and we bought it off my uncle who owned it for 17 years before us. It's a 24 footer, with a carburated Chevy 350. Built on a Chevy dually 1-ton chassis (short wheelbase)...
Given it's year, it's in remarkable shape. It's COULD sleep 6, but 4 seems to be the comfy zone. It's got an overhead sleeper that our two children (ages 5 & 14) slept in, and the couch & dining set convert to full-size beds...
It's got a bathroom with stand-up shower, shitter and sink. 3 burner stovetop, and an oven w/ broiler and fridge that runs off both 110 electric (plug-in) & 12 volt (battery). The cab has it's own heat & A/C. The coach has on overhead air conditioner/heater that also runs off either electricity or 12 volt. Double basin sink. It also has a propane furnace & propane water heater. It's got a huge on-board propane tank that's lasted us two full seasons of summer/fall camping...
The entire brake system was rebuilt a coupla years ago, and both batteries (engine & 12 volt appliance) are only a year old. The accessory battery charges off the engine when you're travelling, then off the electrical system when you're 'plugged in'...
Both waste tanks are solid and have never leaked. We've never used the potable water tank as we always camp where we can get water hookups...
This thing is ready to roll. Just find a favorite spot, plug 'er in and you're good. It has MOST OF the conveniences of today's units, albeit a bit more.....um, primitive and not as pretty...
It's got an 18' awning that's good as new, and we still have the privacy window wraps for it. The rear bumper was extended 3 feet and it now has a decent sized box on it that we use for firewood, axes, foldup chairs, outdoor carpet, etc...
In NH, we can get it inspected at just about any inspection station. We've preferred to go to an RV specific place though as they pressure check the propane lines & shit to make sure they're all safe...
Now for the drawbacks: The seams need to be patched around the roof vents, stink vent and A/C unit. It's normal on the older RV's (and some new ones!) to patch 'em every coupla years. As such, they've leaked a bit. It's nothing more than going to the local RV place and getting some 'roof repair' goop, then climbing up and slopping it on the seams. Wunna the leaks has weakened the overhead cabinets above the 'kitchen' sink. It'd take all of about an hour to repair...
The only other potential problem is the shitter. The spring popped off the mechanism that controls the knive valve. The only way *I* can see to get the spring back on is to remove the shitter. I haven't tackled it as we were just planning on getting a new shitter anyway (I like the word 'shitter'). That issue never really posed much of a problem for us as it's still very usable. We used it for about half a season with that 'problem' without any ill effects...
As I said, our family of four camped in this regularly for the past coupla years. We've spent many long weekends in it and wanted for nothing. It's been a great little unit that's served us well. When we were looking to trade it and/or consign it and the best we've got was $2500. We'd certainly let it go to someone here for that...
It's an ideal starter for you if you'd like to see if RV'ing is for you. It's ideal for you racers out there that're looking for something like this...
Come get it, drive it away and have fun. We certainly did!
