Re: Need your taxes done? Correctly and quickly?
That's a very open-ended question... Do you itemize? If so, medical expenses >10% of your AGI; charitable donations; all property taxes; prior year tax prep fees. Student loan interest? Child tax credit? Home office deduction? Unreimbursed employee expenses?

Re: Need your taxes done? Correctly and quickly?
Bill do you do MA? would it be worth it for me to come to you?
-
Re: Need your taxes done? Correctly and quickly?
Yes, I can prepare MA returns! I will always say it's worth it to have a CPA and/or accountant prep your returns (especially once you are itemizing deductions), as s/he is more likely to find a couple extra dollars. At the very least, don't go to an H&R Block "store" - the folks you deal with there are typically just seasonal hires.
Shoot me an email at wcoolahan AT gmail and we can chat.

Re: Need your taxes done? Correctly and quickly?
Free bump for Bill. He finished my taxes within 3 days of receiving the last piece of paperwork. I got my refund a week later. He was able to increase my refund by almost $300 by some creative filing with the assets I share with my girlfriend.
Thanks again!

Bump for tax year 2014. You should begin to get some documents soon; though technically they aren't required to be distributed until the end of January. Please see the first post for additional information, as well as the blurb below if you think you have a relatively simple return and may be wondering why going through a CPA is a better idea than using software :)

If you have a 1098 showing $200 of taxes paid, but you bought your house in April, that doesn't make sense...the software might ask you "are you sure?" but it doesn't help you understand why that make be incorrect (i.e. you prepaid $4000 of property taxes upon closing). H&R/TT software isn't human; and neither are the drones at the H&R store, who are mostly minimum wage earners just clicking through the software for you.

Re: Need your taxes done? Correctly and quickly?
Are you still in Cambridge? I'm in the area, have been doing my taxes myself but ever year it gets more complicated and with a baby on the way in March maybe this is the year to switch over to a professional.

Re: Need your taxes done? Correctly and quickly?
Is this usual?
CPA: no tax prep appointments on Monday/Wednesday/Friday
I offered next Tuesday or Thursday, and CPA is out of country the whole week LOL
Being hustled LOLOL

I can't comment on whether or not that's "usual." Professionally, I'd like to say that's why you should use my services! Personally, I understand that one's time out of the office (whether for work or pleasure) cannot always be easily moved. Regardless, the inability to reach your tax professional RIGHT NOW shouldn't dissuade you from working with that person. Unless you tell me, "Bill, I need my returns NOW - whatever it takes to push me to the front of the line" --- or you let me know that "well enough" in advance of you attempting to get my immediate attention --- your expectations may be slightly misaligned.
That being said... Do you need prep before next Tuesday or Wednesday?

Re: Need your taxes done? Correctly and quickly?
ha, no I don't...I just had a lengthy, expensive experience last year that made me salty
I offered to drop off my paperwork (with dates written out for income on rentals and spreedsheets for buy/sell stocks) and let them email/call me with questions
