    crf150 or ttr125

For Leeza, plusses and minuses? Or both about the same?

Both bout the same. Just make sure when you get a ttr that is is the l version with the bigger wheels and the disk brake in the front. Both are equally bulletproof and yard worthy.

You'd have to upgrade the suspension most likely for MX before the engine. They are pretty soft stock. Unless you went with the CRF150R.

Both are about the same. The crf is a weights a little bit more. Upgrading the front end on both is pretty simple. The TTR is almost a bolt and go on the rear suspension also. I just finished doing a suspension swap on a TTR that I am building for mini motard.

Thumper Talk and Supermotojunkie have a lot of info on doing the conversions.

IMO, You would probably be better off looking for a TTR225 or a CRF230 for her.

Yea, the 2 stroke mx bikes all would have good suspension stock too.

You's guys abviously have no idea about the crf150 huh.

That thing will skool any ttr. And the crf230 is a fuckin slug.

Go with the crf150. It has the short skirt piston uni cam motor in it. The 230 is an air cooled slug.

    Just sayin.

There are 2 CRF150 models. One (the CRF150R) is water cooled and very fast. The other is air cooled and pretty much on par with the TTR125

    Re: crf150 or ttr125

We dont need anything all out nuts, shes never ridden dirt before, so shell be slower than me (if thats possible). Just need something to get used to, and she didnt feel comfortable on the 250s cause of the height. So maybe a 150r if we can find one.
And isnt the 230 more of a duel sport kind of thing? Would that hold up on a MX trakc?

    Re: crf150 or ttr125

The 230 is kind of a trails/woods bike. The 150R would be a great MX bike for someone who is smaller/light weight. It would also make a sick mini supermoto bike.

    Re: crf150 or ttr125

Any of the MX bikes (CR80/100E, KX 80/100, CRF150R, etc.) will be difficult for a beginner to learn on. If they do spend time on these machines, and, over time, become proficient at riding them, they may be better off for it, but they will be frustrating for a true beginner. (Of them all, the RM has the best ranked power band, in terms of user friendliness).
The TTR 225 and CRF 230 are lower to the ground, and have e-start. These are important features for a true beginner. They are also very sturdy and can take a lot of tip-overs without ruining the day.
Do not bring a beginner to a MX track. Find some nice easy trails, or a field to start her off learning the basics.

There is a CRF230 and a CRF230L (street legal version). Yes, they can take remarkable amounts of abuse. I do not believe that she will be hitting any 40' doubles in the first year or so, but, I could be wrong.

My first bike was a YZ80 it was fine for beginner, also Leeza has been riding bikes for years and has done at least 1 full season of roadracing at loudon she can handle an 80cc dirtbike.

Why would an 80 be better than a 125 or 150? Im confused, especially since its more money than the others that Ive been seeing

80cc 2stroke faster than 125/150 4strokes. The main thing is the chassis/suspension though, not the motor. They are full on mini race bikes so they are setup to be good on an mx track. Like I said, not as user friendly at first but as the rider gets more comfy they will take anything on an mx track in stride. Also great size for someone around/over 5' tall.

I second this. It will also teach her great clutch skill

TTR what? How much you thinking about selling it for? Girlfriend and/or sister in law (no my girlfriend is not my sister in law) are looking at getting something and this might work for one or both of them.

    Re: crf150 or ttr125

    The CRF150R has reliability issues.
In my opinion, either a KX100 or RM100 is the best bet. they are the same size as the 85 expert and have a little more torque.
You can spend big $$$ upgrading the play bikes only to find they are way down on power at the tracks.
We have had TTR 125s, (both sizes), KLX125, KLX140L, CRF150 and 230 and now a KX100. If you want any specific info, feel free to pm me.

Jen's in same boat as Leeza and loves our TT-R125. She wasn't liking what she say from 85cc MX bikes or the CRF150R MX bike...
