    need dirty help

I am in need, more of a want of an on/off rd mule. Want to hit the fire roads but look to use it mainly for dragging the waders and fishing gear around to the fish'n areas harder to get to by cage. Haven't been in the dirt scene in a long time and want advice as to used bikes. Such as what has been a problem like oil drinkers or just shit bikes with age. Its a vague ? but WTF, gotta start somewhere. I'm a spindly bastard so weight isn't an issue.

A pre 08 KLR would be perfect. The 08's are a little more road friendly so I would look for an 07 or less which are the same bike for from like 87 or so to 2007. Lots of parts and extras out there.

    Suzuki DR650 or Honda XR650

    Both are battle proven dual-sports.

There is an old Honda XL for sale on the road to bear brook, looks like it needs some work and the rear wheel bearings are shot but the kid only wants 300 bucks for it and it runs good. I would have brought it home but I'm still trying to get my wife to let me but a race bike and that would not help my cause.

    Re: need dirty help

Just passed by there sunday afternoon but didn't see it. Haven't told the wife of my thoughts about it yet so even if I did see it I would have to start with the ol' red ryder bb gun type hints as a beginning step anyway.

I have a DRZ400s and I love it. Except that it is tall and heavy, it does everything I ask of it. You should be able to find a 2000-2001 model fairly cheap (these years had the "cheaper" non-adjustable rebound shock, and damper rod forks).
For fishing trips, I would prefer an XR230L, just because they are lower and lighter.
I do not recommend any of the 650's as they are just too heavy. If I had to recommend one, I would chose the DR650. It has motor over the XRL and KLR, no radiators, and it has a "Low" option. The XRL has a nosebleed seat height, and great suspension. The KLR's downfall is its weak suspension and skinny fork tube diameter.
I have owned an XRL and a KLR. A friend of mine had a DR650 and I was very impressed with it.
