Yup, going on my first trails ride with some friends on a borrowed bike this weekend. No idea what to expect but super excited! Am I crazy to do this without dirt gear?
Try to get some boots if you can.
Expect to crash, a lot. Expect to be 120% exhausted from having to muscle around/pick the bike up off the ground so much. More than 120% if there are a lot of hills.
Expect to be 100% hooked and looking for a dirtbike.
A man of many names...Jay, Gennaro, Gerry, etc.
Man, I wish I could witness this with mine own eyeballs. Wear the toughest boots ya got.

Eh. At the pace you'll be going you'll be fine in a pair of leather work boots. Better if you can find a loaner set, but you should be ok.
I went to MMI I know what Im doing here chief
Probably going with my track boots, as they have already been fully submerged in mud.![]()
Wanna race the black & blue enduro in ct Sunday??

I don't know about track boots. I know mine offer virtually zero grip. You're going to want grip on wet rocks, mud, etc.
You may be better off with a sturdy pair of work boots.
@ Chipper. Sounds like I'm going to struggle doing much of anything on Sunday
Size boots?
US 10.5/Euro 45. If anyone has something that fits the bill roughly between Providence and Hartford, please let me know! Looking for dirty boots to borrow this weekend.

Boots are the second thing you need, preceded by a good helmet and goggles. Knee/elbow pads are important as well, especially since you will fall over... a lot. Ask NHBubba about Clough last year...
Good Boots are extremely important, and I am going to get the best ones I can get once my foot heals. Trust me. In a boot and crutches for another 6 weeks.

And road racing boots are not an acceptable substitute for proper MX boots.

I went cheaper price point on my woods boots, had them for two years and rode with them countless times. Shit luck catching a rock at speed, foot folded. All it takes is once.
I have been given the impression that speeds will be really slow on this trip. Two of us will be on borrowed bikes with little or no experience, 1 guy on a DR650 in the woods, 1 guy with a ton of experience on a Christini AWD who will undoubtedly be trying to get the rest of us killed.
I'm a noob on a DR650. Pretty much never leave first gear unless it's smooth and flat. I smashed that shifter in first gear. You don't need much speed for things to go wrong in a hurry in woods, especially in the mud.
I didn't think it would be a big deal either, but I stuffed hard enough to knock the wind out of me and tweak my shoulder pretty good. Crash on the street an ambulance is probably coming eventually. Crash bad in the woods and you probably still have to get yourself out. I constantly remind myself of this now.
