Either that or maybe someone, a sponsor maybe, gave him a 4 stroke and asked him to ride it instead for some reason. Might still like 2 strokes but paying to ride a 2 stroke vs. riding a 4 stroke for free or getting paid to ride it might change someone's mind.

if not pro-Pro, i think it also comes down to trying different motors and setups to see where you can gain some fast.

That would change my mind. Either way, any bike being ridden is a good one.

I think he basically took a year off, and I was wondering if the 4 is 'easier' to ride with less frequency.

Haha yeah just get a mortgage errr...truck payment and go ride!

There are tons of good riding spots around here...just not for dirt bikes. An hour plus to go ride every time? Pass.

How do you mean? For this pro we are talking bout?

For occasional rec riders like many of us I haven't found anything much easier to own than a 2-stroke woods bike. No valves to worry about. No oil changes to worry about. (Okay, gear box oil. But that's like 0.7 ths of a quart!) Bike is light. Easy to store. Mine doesn't even have a battery.

    I'm starting to agree.
It's to the point where I'd rather a streetable heavy porkster ADV machine that can also do road miles over anything woods.

A modern thumper with fuel injection is pretty easy to live with too. Gas and go, providing the battery has been kept tendered. Motor characteristics are generally pretty forgiving too (not unlike a green spring 2t) just different. As calm as you want it to be if you short shift it.
In short: it’s just another way of skinning that same cat.

Agreed. I rode my 250XC-F side by side with a new 150XC. They were stunningly similar performers. Just go about it differently.

Not in CT. And you know that plating is a compromise no matter how you slice it.

I ride way more now that I just have to throw the bike on the top of the car and go...with 5 choices of where to ride within 20 minutes.

No doubt. But I'm riding dirt once a week and loving it.

I didn't mean ownership, I meant riding. A pipe-y 2T is physically demanding and requires a pretty active style to ride competitively. I suppose an MX-cammed 4-stroke is too, but I was wondering if maybe it's a little smoother.

If riding occasionally, then the valves don't need to be checked that often. Like less than once a year. I don't 'store' my bike for the winter, I just stop riding it for a few months. Although I keep meaning to drain the bowl.

The core edge a 2T bike has is the weight. Way less top-heavy, and lighter in every way.

I don't have a truck. Bike lives on the trailer. Hook up and go. Even easier than a pick-up in that respect. But I'm with ya - I do a lot of pedaling too because it's fun, less effort to get out and ride, and more spots in closer range.

Thinkin about getting a car with AWD. Or should I run FWD with snowtires?

Re: New to me dirty toy

Speaking of trailers...I fucked my car up by carrying two downhill mountain bikes on a hitch rack. Trailer hitch is useless now lol. Had to run a ratchet strap through the trunk to make it back with the dh bikes.

We can probably argue about this all day. I have a modern fuel injected thumper in the garage next to my two-hunny. It has a lot of pros and I get why people like them so much. But it is easily much more to maintain. The 200 really is gas 'n go.

That said, I'm looking to part ways with the 200 and keep the thumper as it is more versatile and I need versatile right now.
