I'd say: set it up however it's going to fit you best to ride. BUT you really should be standing as much as possible.

I just ordered the seat. I will stand up as much as possible. I know it works. Just hard to do. Thanks Chip
Now off to the gym.
You'll ride for an hour and a half. Remember that when you come unglued. "I just have to ride for an hour and a half."
Added a kidney belt to the order. Spinning classes and the stairmaster at the gym. I am psyched.
Coming unglued is a great way to put it, I did lrrs for 3 or so years and thought this would be comparable physically, it's not. I remember finishing my first one and saying "why the fuck do you guys do this?" That being said, it's a blast. Pace yourself and have fun.
Magnesium & Calcium vitamin tablets. One in the morning & one in the Evening with meals. Helps to minimize the cramps. I thought bananas would help, but after some nasty leg cramps driving home from the NETRA events and trying to climb out of my van, I soon learned that Magnesium & Calcium supplements as recommended from my Chiropractor helped dramatically with leg cramping. I still take them every day & hope my out of shape winter weight will not be too much of an hindrance to finish my first few NETRA events this year. Only word of advice for tall seat is that you want be able to touch the ground in some of the tougher sections with at least one foot, to help prevent falling over, if/when your bike stalls. Also recommend Rekluse clutch, which helps in any really difficult sections.

Hill climb anyone? maybe with some mild erosion?
Wow!
Well....
Did a cherry pop today? If so, welcome to the addiction!
My race was stopped at approximately the 20 minute mark due to a apparent death on the course. Details are sketchy but it seems like it involved a seasoned veteran running in the Super Seniors class.
Oi...
Devastating.
yikes. no good.
I got there Saturday and walked some of the course. Looked awesome. Nice single track. Headed down to Bass Pro Shop and checked it out. Then it started raining. As in RAINING. Rained hard all night. Mud Mud Mud. Ruts Ruts Ruts. I fell so much I lost count. I was exhausted. Sore is a mild description. I would not have done two laps. My skills in ruts are non-existent. I got a bog in the woods behind where I live just below my small trail system. I guess I will extend into it and practice that stuff. Next event will be in East Hartford. I want to get there early and tube the Farmington River.

Scary times.
My next door neighbor is a friend of the rider who passed away. He was a member of Knox trail riders (our club out here in western Mass), late 50's, longtime rider and racer from Easthampton. He was also, at one time, a mechanic for Ron Lechien. They think it was a heart attack...RIP
Shit, this is happening way too much lately!
