Re: OPERATION FULL MOTO SEASON ~MAINE MOTOCROS SERIES 2026~

Current feelings on dirtbike racing can be summed up as follows:

Considered quitting after fist moto, just too scared of crashing, last place first moto. Sucked it up, passed a few guys and got 16/19 second moto. Had A class riders jump over me, I REALLY hate that.

Daughter did well, really shined when the pouring rain made the track shit, after years in shitty j days, thats our jam. She did crash and hurt her hand a bit.

Watched her friend in second place in super mini get bucked on a 60' table, land front wheel and go over the bars and get knocked out, thought he broke his nose, jesus, thought he broke his neck from where I was standing, ran out on the track and talked to him as he was waking up, rode his bike back and packed up their trailer so they could get to the hospital easier. He is okay, just a bad concussion.

Getting sick of seeing people seriously injured, and it is really getting in my head when Im trying to get my old out of shape ass around the track........

I haven't ridden a dirt bike in close to a decade (!) but can confirm that being jumped over is not an awesome feeling.

Love the thread and the journey, though. Can't wait to do this with my kids (4.5 and 3) some day soon!

I still remember the corner workers at MX207 seeing me get jumped over in 40+ practice and very sheepishly asking if I'd be ok running in the kids practice group as they were afraid I was going to get landed on. More open track, sure! I swear they thought I was going to rip them a new one just for daring ask that question.

At this point I've had adults jump over me, kids, meh, as long as they continue to not jump ONTO me, I'm good.

After getting taken out 1 minute into my first practice I never do practice. Like 50 250C riders plus 50 other C riders being retarded? No thanks.

    Practice is ALL C riders. 450c, c open, 250 c etc

My daughter doesn't practice either, it's ALL 85s, including super mini and shit.

I would happily practice with the kids.

Sadly, I never rode at MX207. But NHMX was the first place where I was jumped over.. I think Southwick was the other one?

Also, son broken leg update: the cast is off an he is now in a walking boot, still on crutches though. Pain is still not great, but forward progress.

This weekend is the only NH race at The Dirt Side. I'm going to mount my scoop tire, I hear it is sandy.

Re: OPERATION FULL MOTO SEASON ~MAINE MOTOCROS SERIES 2026~

Great race week, had more fun than usual. Was able to get up there early Friday and do some practice sessions, which helped a lot. The Dirt Side is a beautiful track up in the mountains:

Unfortunately, I was told they are closing. I guess they invested a bunch of money in a sprinkler system but they just don't get enough people there to make money back.

They groomed the track beautifully after practice

The turnout was very low, probably 1/3 the usual size. In 40+ there were no A riders, 1 B rider, and 4 C riders.

First moto I ran pretty well, but everyone was super fast so I came in a pretty distant 4th.

I ran a scoop and the track was sandy, I had great starts both motos, so that was pretty fun.

Second moto I was hanging closer to third, and he overshot a jump and went off the track, putting me in third. This caused me to push hard and I shaved like 10 second off my moto 1 lap times. He was right on my ass and I held third for a lap. He passed me, but I actually passed him back! Then he got by me again, but I stayed like 25 yards behind him. Id reel him in on the straights and big sweepers, but he would leave me on the jumps and the trickier parts.

    Here is is passing me

SO close to getting my first podium! By the halfway point of the 4th and final lap I gassed out and got arm pump. Actually low speed low sided in the last corner because my arms were just toast. It was real fun picking my bike up, so tired, and they already released the 85s!

So that gave me 4/4 both motos and overall.

Somewhat frustrating first moto for my daughter, she was lugging the bike too much it was bogging, she got 6/6. I tried to tell her she was in the wrong gear but she wouldn't listen to me. Other people luckily could talk her into it and she ran much better second moto. I put a fresh plug in and the big and her both ran a lot better, she finished 5/6 second moto for a 5/6 overall and got her first award as they do 1-5 for her class!!!

Great weekend, nobody got hurt, and a great track.

    MX207 this weekend coming up!

oh, and my fastest lap first moto was 2:19.8, second moto was 2:11.525!!! like 1 or 2 seconds off third place pace, then my last lap was 2:30 including the lowside lol

    Daughters fastest lap was 2:21.76

Race #9 complete, only 3 left. Possibly my son can run the last 3... Wheeler springs is a tough track with a mix of hard ground and dust over it, I regret leaving my scoop on for sure. I beat my daughter by 2 seconds for fastest lap, but she is right there. I went 7/9 and she went 5/7 so not bad, and always glad to get out safe. A bit tough since it was our first time back since my son broke his leg there. There were some pretty serious injuries as well Saturday, tough sport.....
