op I would at least take the front end off to grease the steering bearings, change the oil in the forks, take the swing arm off and grease those bearings, and at least inspect the wheel bearings before going far.
with a little maintenance,it will be a great ride
I agree I'm going to completely go through everything I found today some Jerry rigged stuff nothing major but makes me want go through everything
Re: picked up a dirt bike today
So I guess I didn't get the great deal I thought I did
I took it out for the first time rode some trails for about 30 mins and then it stalled and I couldn't get it kicked started again I ended up pop starting it down a hill and riding home .
I checked the compression it was 140 I'm not sure if that's a low number (hopefully someone on here can tell me that) I changed the plug, drained the trans fluid ,and coolant ,new fluids in but still won't kick over I ended up taking the carbs apart cleaning everything in sea foam got it together today and still won't kick over
Anyone on here have anymore ideas to help me out
Thanks in advance
Re: picked up a dirt bike today
put in a new plug and see what happens. I think 135psi or higher is ok..I forget exactly but I want to say my last yz125 I had was 135-140psi and ran great.
Re: picked up a dirt bike today
Ya ill try that the new plug I put in was a $3 plug maybe it needs the $9 I don't know
Re: picked up a dirt bike today
Only buy NGK plugs for 2 strokes. My preference on my YZ125 is a B7ES. The manual will probably say BR9EG or something similar.Check the plug boot to make sure it's not working it's way loose from the wire and that the screw mount hasn't chewed away the wire core.
Re: picked up a dirt bike today
I also recommend tracing the stop button wiring to see if the previous owner clamped the wire to the frame with a metal clamp (I've actually seem this once).
Re: picked up a dirt bike today
Will do thanks for the ideas
Re: picked up a dirt bike today
i actually picked up an '01 xr100 yesterday as the lady wants to learn on a dirt bike. it could use a chain and may need a tube up front... $550 and it runs great, got OEM parts too as it has a aftermarket exhaust..
