Re: VET Championships- Winchester Speed Park this weekend
Umm... Should my wheel bearings spin freely? Cause I can't move em with my fingers... on either set of wheels!
I ordered some up, but I HATE changing them. Any tips?

NO! but if you want them to spin for some reason and feel like changing them, I just use sockets that fit the OD of the bearing but still fit in the hub and use a threaded rod with washers on it as a shitty makeshift bearing puller. I built it with crap from home depot.

Re: VET Championships- Winchester Speed Park this weekend
What do you mean when you say, NO???
But you still have to tap the first one out, right?

I just meant no, they should not spin free :jackie:

Re: VET Championships- Winchester Speed Park this weekend
So how do I know if they are frozen? Cant the bearing just spin around the axle, or does the torque on the axle make that impossible?

Ya I'm not sure, I usually jam my thumb in there and try to move them. Then it starts to hurt and I put the axle back in and see if I can get the bearing to move with pressure from the axle.

Re: VET Championships- Winchester Speed Park this weekend
They should move without any binding or rough spots. Aka, you're due.
Set the wheel on a table on blocks such that the hub is directly supported and there is room for the bearing to drop out when it's ready. Use a socket sized to match the OD of the bearing on one side as a drift and tap the bearing 'into' the hub a couple times smartly. The hope is the shock will transfer from the bearing, down through the spacer into the other bearing, giving you some clearance. You can then shift the internal spacer around a bit to use as a drift against the lower bearing. Tap'er free, flip, and use a drift against the remaining bearing directly.
Wait, you should know this already?

Ya, That's my technique, but I suck at it...

You could always use my other technique... start with hammered to death 1992 wheels. Tip wheel to one side to remove bearing that managed to stay in, remove other bearing off floor that fell out when you took the axle out. Install new bearings by wrapping with feeler strips till snug.
In other news, given the weather, I think I may wuss out on MX101 Sunday. Not interested in a cold mudder session.

It just means the guys at MX207 will pause for 1 second before deciding the track is still too dry and firing up the sprinklers.
